That is good news. I recall receiving an error on my Pit Boss and the instructions said to leave it unplugged for awhile. Sure enough, it corrected itself.
There should be a line fuse on the controller board, but you will need to pull the controller to see/find it. Otherwise, you have a dead unit and you should contact Traeger about it.
Yeah, kind of unfortunate. I've dealt with numerous Chinese firms, purchasing product for my business and it is always the same: First shipment is great, then it goes downhill from there. It is clear these firm's margins are so good they can put up with the duds they receive.
Of course. Pricing for replacement parts made in China would be so much cheaper, hence the immediate door replacement for a cosmetic scuff made by another poster in this thread. Case in point, I had to get a new controller for my PB. A new one was shipped out and they didn't want the faulty...
Well, considering new Traegers are up there price wise, YMMV. Check the obvious; holes, rust spots. If it has been sitting for that long, the chute may be rusted. The pellet cup would probably be toast but check it anyway. Get him to fire it up and then start at $150 and go from there lol.
$$$. Think Big Chief. Basic design and gets the job done, provided the plan is cold smoking. I'd probably throw in a small muffin fan to circulate the smoke a bit and regulate the exhaust.
If I had that I would go the cheap route by snagging a used stove element and manual temp control. Throw in a wired temperature monitor and you're done.
John, I recently experienced the same results as you did when I swapped out the stock controller in my Pit Boss with a PID. Results were next to no smoke flavour at all regardless what temps I was running it at. Was turned off so much that I swapped back the original controller - at least I...
Looks like a well used unit, but for $100 I would have snagged it too. If there is one thing I learned about these, its if it isn't broke, don't fix it. I swapped out the stock controller in my new PB smoker with a PID thinking I didn't want to deal with the issues other people had. A short...
