if i remember right on mine it seasons as it cooks, the more u use it...i did do a initial burn in mine first though, just me. I do know this for sure, your gonna love it, they work great... someone will give ya a better tip on seasoning it im sure...hard to beat a WSM...btw welcome.

Thanks Fig, the "bar" that runs across the top is part of the frame covered up with trim i made, after lighting the lump (the top is folded open) i put the mid section on thru the top with the water pan and with a smaller pot i fill up the water pan with hot tap water, grate on, food on, top on...
