Ash bin. I empty it before I place wood in it.
B&B is a company that mostly produces quality lump charcoal and briquettes. They also have hardwood chunks sold in bags. Most hardwood sold in bags I wouldnt touch, but B&Bs is decent. If you can harvest your own wood though, that is better.
That’s really nothing. Just bare metal rust patina. Spray Pam or some other oil on it and it will burn off on your first cook, and turn black with the smoke creosote going through it.
On my Gravity, I can easily get too much smoke. Cooking temps have a lot to do with it. 225 and loaded with wood in the bin, and you produce way too much smoke for big meats like a butt.
For Brisket, I like running at 275 and I place similar sized chunks of wood in with the charcoal...
I always hate cleaning my UDS, so much so that I quite using it completely once I got my Gravity fed smoker. Seemed like a pain in the arse. Always get covered in grease when cleaning. Never had a WSM, but think I would like the ability to disassemble it for easier cleaning,
Get you one of the 5 gallon bucket vacuums they have at places like Home Depot. They don‘t cost much at all, and you can suck the pellets right out, and you have a place to store the pellets.
Congrats on the new Rec Teq. They make a good product.
Well, that in a nutshell is why the Rec Teq is way more popular than a P&S (as well as Yoder and Mak). It’s hard to rationalize spending considerable more for something that basically does the same thing. It’s kind of like comparing a Camry to a BMW. Both get you from A & B just about the...
The RT1250 is an updated 700 and adds a few things the 700 should have had like the upper cooking grate, and both grates now slide like the PS1250. I do like the foldable front shelf (need to be foldable as the grill is fairly deep to begin with because of the rear hopper).
To compare the two...
Southern Q, Deep South, T&K and Humphreys have been building them for quite some time too. Nothing new about Gravity Fed units. The Masterbuilt and Chargrill are a little different though as they function as both a grill and smoker, where all the others are smokers only. I’ve had my Southern Q...
I’ve got a 5500 that can plug into the house and run stuff like the water heater and we’ll pump. Not at the same time, but is workable. So for instance, you can run the well, get the water pressure up, then switch over to the heater to let the water warm up. After awhile, you can switch the...
Sounds like it’s time to invest in a new smoker. I‘ve had some smokes that long, but that was for multiple proteins. If it had been two 9 pounds butts, I would have pulled them and filled them full of lead to make sure that piggy was dead.
I am not sure what you are referring to as a smoke box to place over gas grill is. What I am familiar with are the wood chip boxes that you will with wood chips and place in the grill.. (maybe we are talking about the same thing). I have used one that I have a few times (years ago) and it never...
yes, but every style has trade offs. The Masterbuilt is a gravity fed machine and with its design you can grill and smoke. A Weber 22” or better yet a 26” kettle can also do those things well, and should outlast the Masterbilt. The Masterbuilt gravity is pretty cool though and has a built in...
Weber has been long known for excellent customer service. I think they got overwhelmed with the COVID crisis though. Sales took off on grills and outdoor products, and their work force wasn’t in the office everyday As reliably before Covid. Not sure if they have returned to their pre Covid...
Yes, nothing is as simple as a gas grill. I too love charcoal, but without a doubt, the easiest cooking machine is gas. Turn on, let it warm up for 5 min or so. Cook and turn off. Clean up occasionally, but cleanup is simple on a Weber.
