    Masterbuilt Gravity 800

The Masterbuilt website says the hopper holds about 10 lbs of charcoal for up to 10 hours of use. I haven't kept very good track of how much I've used, but I'd say that I used close to 3/4 of a hopper to do a rack of ribs at 225 for 6 hours. So maybe not quite as good as Masterbuilt says, but...

    Masterbuilt Gravity 800

The Gravity 800 comes with a second modified manifold that is used with the griddle. It directs the heat directly underneath it so that it gets hot enough. The 560/1050 don't come with the modified manifold, but you can by an aftermarket version from lss mods, then use a cast iron griddle...

    Masterbuilt Gravity 800

To get 6 racks of ribs to fit, you would probably need to use one or both upper shelves. 4 full size shoulders might fit on the main cooking grate. Haven't tried to do that much as I'm mostly cooking for just the wife and I.

    Masterbuilt Gravity 800

I wanted the griddle, didn't need the larger space of the 1050, and the 800 was cheaper. The 800 was the easy choice for me. Just a heads up, the 800 in the box weighs about 260 lbs. You might need a truck or SUV and a helper to transport it.

    Masterbuilt Gravity 800

The 800 is only available thru Walmart. It seems they might be sold out online, though there's a couple available at store in my area (Seattle).

    1200$ budget

Before you give up on charcoal, I'd figure I throw in my 2 cents and reccomend the Masterbuilt Gravity Series. All 3 models are under $1200, cleanup is pretty easy, and they are as set and forget as a pellet grill. I'm loving mine.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

The metal plates at the bottom of the chute in my 800 are starting to degrade, however, the exposed fire brick seems to be holding up fine. My understanding is that some of the first 560s had fiberglass insulation under the plates rather than just the fire brick and it wasn't hold up after they...

    Keeping it lit

I've used my 800 about 6 times now and haven't had any problems getting the coals started. I do the paper towel soaked in vegetable oil trick that the Backyard BBQ YouTube channel suggests. Just make sure to remove the slides, leave the hopper lid and ash tray door open, and let it go for...

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

Do you think that if your hopper lid didn't leak, you'd get a more even burn between the split and charcoal?

    Have seen this many times

So sorry for your loss. My avatar is a pic of our sweet girl, Clementine. She passed in early 2019 at the age of 13. It was pretty hard for us and we weren't sure if we'd ever bring another pup into our family. However, last fall we were finally ready and rescued this guy, Henry: He's...

question about LS Mod's 560 griddle shroud for Masterbuilt Gravity's

I think most of the grease fires come from grills that haven't been cleaned after long cooks. Then somefires it up to 600+ to sear a steak and all the built up grease catches on fire. I'm probably gonna sear steaks this weekend, and if I don't clean my grill first, it could happen. With a...

question about LS Mod's 560 griddle shroud for Masterbuilt Gravity's

I think there's two different manifold mods for the 560. One is a cover that sits on top of the manifold has raised edges along the front and back. This is the one that is meant to guide grease away from the openings in the manifold to prevent fires. I think you can now get it with supports...

Want to buy a smoker, a few questions.

Sorry your smoker has been delayed. I know how you feel. When my 800 was shipped from Walmart, they gave me an estimated 2 week delivery date. However, when it got handed over to the local freight company for final delivery, I couldn't schedule a delivery until over a week later than the...

    First crack at 3-2-1 Ribs

Smoked a 6.5 lbs rack of spare ribs this past weekend for the wife and I (that's about 2 servings, right?) Coated with mustard and Memphis Dust (I friggin love that stuff) and put on the MB Gravity 800 at 225. Water pan had 50/50 apple juice and water. Used B&B briquettes with a mix of...

    G

I use the Inkbird Pro app on an Android phone. It works great, but I did have a bunch of problems getting it to detect my unit. It was a counter intuitive process that took a while. Once I got it connected, though, the app works well

Want to buy a smoker, a few questions.

Don't know how the 560 is sold, but the 800 came with the hopper attached to the cook chamber. The shelf with the control panel was not attached. I will say that shipping from Walmart for the 800 was the worst part of the process. Basically got it 4 weeks later than I expected. Mostly due...

Want to buy a smoker, a few questions.

Got an 800 a little over a month ago and I love it. No mods yet, but I might be looking at the manifold cover with the water pan supports. The griddle option was the thing that put it over the top for me.

    Old Country Gravity Feed

I see. I didn't know that he didn't take it with him. I don't have any stick burner experience. What about the Old Country Gravity Feed would make it closer to the stick burners? Is it the lack of forced air from the fan? Just a better build quality that leads to a better sealed cook...
