Point A to B, they will all make basically the same food. The path between the two points vary grill to grill. Your time and mileage will master any grill you commit to.
My Trag made great food. My Rec Tec makes virtually the same, but is way less frustrating doing it.
I was saving for a Yoder, but eventually realized I couldn't convince myself it was twice the cooker. A thousand extra bucks isn't always life changing money, but now a days a consumer needs to be smart.
I personally went with Rec Tec. Reviews seem very positive from Camp Chef users. The Grilla...
I bought a couple bags of LJ charhickory last summer. The charcoal added a spiciness to the flavor. As pleased as I was to find a difference in it, I really didn't like it. I went back to LJ 100% hickory when they were used up.
My local Rural King has been out of everything but LJ comp blend...
I don't think your control has a value to adjust your RTD reading. Some controls allow you to make variable shifts to "dial in" RTDs and meat probes.
Since you've checked it, obviously it's going to be something your concerned about. I would place your thermometer around the grilling surface...
The RTs have larger pellet hoppers. I always hated having a bag with 3-4lbs of pellets left over.
Little things like hopper size and wifi I didn't know I needed until I had it.
The 590 exhaust have zero effect on smoke performance. They do make fitting up a winter jacket next to impossible though.
It's hard judging how long these things should last. Without knowing the age or being able to judge the amount of usage the grill has had only complicates it.
I would check and clean all your connectors behind the control.
If the rest of the grill is solid I would plan on buying a new control...
I was all in on a Yoder myself. But after comparing the two, I couldn't come up with math that made a Yoder worth twice the money. The money I saved is eventually going to be a kamado to go along with my RT.
60lbs of pecan in, and YES, I would totally buy RT again.
Temps are solid, the control is easy, the wifi always connects, the graphing is surprisingly interesting to watch. Some of my joy stems from being completely worn out out trying to make my old grill better. But it all, the rt-590 has...
Rec Tec RT-590 for the win. ZERO comparison in this price range.
I've personally owned Traeger, Savannah stoked a traeger, and have hands on wiggle tested everything big box store.
I was bored with the constant RT pimping too. Now I have one, and damn is it awesome.
I recently swapped out a Traeger Pro22 for a Rec Tec rt-590.
I have to say, the RT koolaid is legit.
Construction and temp control are above other grills in this price range. Biggest surprise, the auger doesn't make sound while running. Occasionally you hear a pellet get pinched, but there's...
+1 on wifi. Didn't think I needed it until I got. Very nice being able to check the grill and probe temps. Rec Tec does a nice graph of everything too.
I don't think temp swings matter that much. My traeger swung 30 degrees and I never really made bad food because of it.
The problem I had with swings came from running low temps and worrying about the thing flaming out on me. It never did, but many times I caught billowing the startup type...
