Did you try this recipe smoked? If so how did it turn out?

    Fire brick?

Thanks for the pics! What I'm thinking of doing now is to add a layer of expanded metal as suggested, shorten the legs of the tray a little and add some short sides to help keep the coals from falling off the edges.

    Fire brick?

That's what I plan to do this year. I don't cook on my smoker as much as most of yall probably do so that hurts the learning curve. I probably only get it out 4 or 5 times a year on a good year lol, I'm hoping to change that this year though. I've gotten my smoke a lot better over the last...

    Fire brick?

Yeah I've definitely been running my fire all wrong. I may try the extra layers of expanded metal to help keep my coals from falling through. I'm still curious about the use or firebrick though. And if the bricks I linked would be the correct type to use? I know when my parents used to...

    Fire brick?

I have always had a hard time keeping a consistent temperature going on my Lang 36. I've been reading some posts on here and watched a couple of videos on fire management and I think I now know my problems. First I've been using too large of splits for small smoker. That's and easy fix. But my...

    Offset Smoker Fire management

Yep. I would add that using a dead blow hammer would ensure you don't damage the poll of your axe if doing it this way. https://www.harborfreight.com/4-lb-neon-orange-dead-blow-hammer-69004.html

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Looking forward to learning and improving my skills. Pimp my smoker! Lol! Funny thing was I custom ordered it based on some pics on their website and told them the need to be able to move it around easily. I had no idea what it was gonna look like. I was...

    What should I do?

Thanks for the link. I will be getting a moisture meter, I had no idea they were that cheap. I will get it split and stacked as soon as it dries up enough to get my neighbor's splitter over here. I'll have to have them over for ribs as a thank you! I'll probably have enough wood for the next 5...

    What should I do?

Small update... I went and cut another load today, the wood looks pristine when first cut. Other than that one peice that is really black, I think it is just surface mold from all this rain we have been having, because it pretty much scratches off with edge of a axe. I'm attaching 2 pics of the...

    What should I do?

I've read about that happening with oak. It will be interesting to see what it looks like when I split those pieces.

    What should I do?

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to cut some more to bring home this weekend, then as soon as it dries up a bit around here my neighbor offered the use of his wood splitter so I'll get it split and stacked on a couple plastic pallets under my lean to on the back of my garage so it will stay...

    What should I do?

Hi, new member here looking for some advise. I brought a load of red oak home from a tree that was cut down where I work. It was just cut 2 or three weeks ago. In one of the pieces there are black spots mostly in the sapwood. When fresh cut the black was very light, but after the rain we have...
