Thanks guys...forgot to take a few more pics...but this past weekend, I got the smoke chamber door all cut out, welded on the hinges and the lip that goes around the door.
Fourthwind...yup, absolutely doing pull out shelves! :D As for the wheels...yeah...I'm kind of agreeing with you. On...
You all were very helpful in my first build..the insulated build that I thought I'd post up my latest project to see if there were any suggestions along the way :D
This build is just for the hell of it, just wanted to build one...I'll end up putting it up on eBay, craigslist, etc...once it's...
Hey...sorry for the long delay! Thanks for the comments...it was a beast to build. I have actually added a few tuning plate and the temps are more even...but I suppose a 10-15deg variation on something this big isn't *too* bad. It's 60"L x 24"W.
Ahhh...the Supra. It did start life as a...
Ok...I'm onto smoke #2...this time an overnight deal. Learning a few more things...good things :)
1) It's def more efficient than my old non-insulated smoker. After smoking for a few hours, I packed it up with Charcoal, using firebricks to isolate it into rows and went to bed. Rolled the...
On one hand that would make sense...but I was worried the heat/smoke would come out of the vent in the back and try to go right out the stacks if they were on the side and low like that.
Am I off base with that or what? I'm not opposed to moving them for the ideal smoke :)
I got the insulation from a seller on eBay...if you want, I could probably dig up the exact seller, it's 2300deg kiln insulation.
I'm sort of mixed on whether or not it was worth the time and expense. For some reason, I had it in my mind that it would hold heat like a thermos...which...
Never tried it...how's the Mulberry smoke, good flavor?
I'm right in S NJ and have a TON of Oak, some cherry and a good bit of Apple if interested :)
Jay
Well, last night I seasoned the smoker, got a big 'ol fire going and let her rip.
Other than doing a better job at welding....I think I'd have 2" insulation on the top of the smoke chamer. I have 1" throughout the smoker chamber and 2" for the firebox. however, I can still feel a good amount...
Well...the 3+ feet of snow has finally melted and I managed to con...err...convince a few friends to help me push this monster to the backyard.
Wow...lots of lessons learned during the build for the next one and lots of lessons learned for moving one of these 900lb monsters!
Now, just need to...
Hey guys...sorry for the delay.
I have some oak cut into chunks and I have logs too...so really whatever you guys want :)
How much were you all thinking about swapping? Like I said I have a mountain of Oak here.
Feel free to PM me here or email me: [email protected]
Taking a shot here...
I have a fair amount Cherry, so I'm good there and I have Oak for DAYS! If anyone's interested in getting some Oak in exchange for Apple or pretty much any fruitwood, let me know :) I'd take some Hickory too...
Thanks,
Jay
Well...all but done now! Just have to frame out the cooking racks...spend about 5hrs grinding and cleaning up my welds :) Then paint it...whew...what a trip...
Home made hinge :D
