    quick question from SmokinVegasBaby

I would like to make my own buns as well. Personally I think a great pulled pork sandwich starts with great pork but the bread is also a key component and shouldn't be ignored. Making the investment into making great tasting meat to then just throw it on some $.99 store bought cheapo buns that...

What pellet smoker to get ???

#1 I don't want to have two items eating up patio space. #2 I don't think it's really that much cost in pellets, pellets are like $0.37 per lb and I'm not grilling for hours, more like minutes. I think the cost is well worth it for the quality of food produced. #3 I like cooking with wood vs...

What pellet smoker to get ???

Also, top end temps were important to me for grilling. The yoder is at 600, the others are around 500 if I recall.

What pellet smoker to get ???

Rec Tek is made in china but QC'd here. Similar to Traeger and GMG. Not sure on the Louisiana, the Yoder is US made. If that matters you are going to pay a slight premium for the USA made product. The china stuff is fine, works okay, but not sure how many years you can get out of one. I wanted...

What pellet smoker to get ???

Not the same name, but pretty similar in construction (shape, layout), sound, temps lows/highs), that's what I meant. Not trying to imply they are the same manufacturer. They do seem to have a great deal in common, from what I've seen. Good to hear you have more real world differences that you...

What pellet smoker to get ???

Well, to me, the Traeger/Rec Tek/GMG/Pellet Pro are pretty much the same machine. They look the same, sound the same, cook the same, they seem to only have some minor tweaks and controller differences between the lines. I would consider that your first tier and price range of options. Then you...

    Pulled Chicken?

Yeah, I could do without the skin really. The only time I find I really care for chicken skin is when it's fried. Fried Chicken baby. Chicken overall seems like so much more of a pain in the rear compared to pork or beef. LOL

    Friday morning pork butt

at 179 now... 5 more hours... should get you to 205 I would think, based on the temp you're cooking at. That's my gut talking though, I'm still a bit of a noob.

    Pulled Chicken?

Ah ha! Maybe I change it from pulled chicken to chopped chicken this next go around. Tell you what, I cooked some split breasts, non-brined, on the "smoke" (sub 180) setting on the Traeger when I first got it a few weeks ago, it ended up cooking like 12 hours. The skin was crap (rubbery) but the...

    Pulled Chicken?

Very useful info. Maybe it's not that much of a difference health wise, but maybe nice for a change of pace then. Ostrich, really... LOL  I need to master the pig, the cow and the chicken first! ;)
