Plastic door on MES 30, any problems?

Ok, I stand corrected. I stopped by Gander and looked it over again. Now of course I'm kicking myself for not jumping on the black Friday deal. They're back up to $229.

Plastic door on MES 30, any problems?

I should have been more clear. It was the MES30 at Gander Mountain that was part of the black Friday sale. I assume all MES30s are the same. The inside of the door is metal of course but the outside of the door is plastic which is what caused my concern as this is what started to warp and melt...

Plastic door on MES 30, any problems?

I had a Masterforge electric smoker from Lowes for a few months. It worked well until the plastic door started to melt. I took it back and got a charcoal kamado cooker that I love but am thinking about getting another electric smoker. So I finally went and looked at the MES 30 and saw that the...

I'm going to try today but not sure if I'll do the sauce or not.

could I use a thick sauce instead of a dry rub on a butt?

Thanks for the replies. I guess there is really nothing to lose by trying. I like the idea of using the drippings for mopping.

could I use a thick sauce instead of a dry rub on a butt?

I'm new to smoking and have only done a few Boston butts. Each time using a dry rub. The other day I made some ribs and used ChefJimmy's foiling sauce. That got me thinking, could I just use a sauce like that instead of a dry rub for my next butt cook? Is there a reason dry rubs are used...

First Low-n-Slow with a Kamado style cooker

Right. I've only been smoking since June. I bought an electric smoker which I had to return but during that time I had it I did ribs at 225 and 275, preferring them at 275. Thjs shot a bit above 275. Live and learn right.

First Low-n-Slow with a Kamado style cooker

This is my first low-n-slow attempt with my Chargriller Akorn kamado cooker. I bought 2 racks of spares trimmed St. Louis style.  I rubbed them down with a mix of turbinado sugar, paprika, kosher salt, and black pepper. I don't measure these out, I just mix them up until I like the flavor. I...

MES 30 with window or without?

Update. Thanks for all of the replies and info, I ended up getting the Chargriller Akorn. I guess I'll wander over to the charcoal section.

MES 30 with window or without?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I need to decide on whether or not to go with an electric like the MES 30 or a charcoal like the WSM or similar. My original post was just for info gathering to help with my decision.

MES 30, how well do they hold cooking temps?

Yeah those are the answers I was looking for. A 5-10 swing is not really that big of a deal.

    Master Forge from Lowes

UPDATE, the Master Forge was returned to Lowes for a full refund. All 3 doors started to melt around the edges and the rubber seals were cracking and melting to the chassis. Lowes took it back no questions asked. FYI I used it probably 10 times  and smoked in the 250-275 range. I would not...
