I called Weston Supply today and ordered the 12" slicer today. I had a hard time trying to get their website to cooperate, so the phone was much easier. They said it would be here in a few days. Shipping was 39 bucks to North Dakota. I am curious as to those who have purchased one, what thoughts...
I also bolted caster wheels to my GOSM. Makes it very easy to roll out from the garage. I did have to reinforce the sides to keep the legs sturdy. Any ideas on a grease pan in the bottom?? I am thinking of making a removable one that can be taken out and cleaned instead of getting all the grease...
The only thing I would like to see with my GOSM is a removable grease tray that would lay on the bottom of the smoker fitted around the burner opening. I find that when I have meat not directly over the water pan, juice and such, drip down and out the door openings and down on the ground. I...
Good lookin smoke you got going there Dan...You will have to let us know how the rolled ribs turn out. I am curious to know if they take on all that delicious smoke flavor that way...
Mossy,
Do you use the flavor booster from Curley's and do you notice any difference in the flavor of the meat? I used 2 oz. when I made mine but since I have not tried the bacon without any booster I have no way to compare.
Venison Bacon looks right on the money Bill! I made 25 lbs. a couple weeks ago and I am going through it like candy. I have grind and seasonings for another 25 lbs. myself and plan on making another batch in the near future. Simple to make, not real time consuming and tastes oh sooo good! I am...
I use about a 10 percent mix ratio for cheese to meat... i.e. 2 1/2 pounds cheese to 25 pounds sausage. I have tried 20 percent and it is okay if you like alot of cheese in your sausage. I buy mine from a local meat processing store in town. Places like your small town sausage makers could...
Placebo,
I didn't use any particular cut of venison, just lean venison trimmings which I did myself. I mixed it 50/50 with pork per the recipe. A real easy product to make and your taste buds will love you for it. I think you could use it for BLT'S, on pizza, cut into chunks for scalloped...
Mossy,
It will be a must make every year for me now, I am thinking maybe more than once a year...Definitely a great prduct...thanks for shining all of us on to it!
I ordered my GOSM from Walmart online and had it shipped to my local Walmart store...hence, no shipping charges. And one thing about Walmart, they have no problem taking items back. But I agree with Twistertail, if you call them and tell them its all banged up they may offer you a discount...
Goat,
I smoke some venison jerky similar to that by sprinkling coarse black pepper on top and bottom before putting it in the smoker...It seems to add a little extra zip. I will have to try the bacon ends and pepper trick in my next batch. Also, I might give the seasoning you use a try also...
