New To Everything! Moving from PA to Colorado looking to purchase my FIRST smoker

Welcome to the forum!  You have some work ahead of you to make an informed decision but you will learn so much along the way.  I know because I've been there several times.  First for a gas vertical smoker, then the gas grill replacement, then the kettle, then the pellet rig, then Sous Vide...

Starting my own BBQ business, I have some questions about starting up.

This is the best advice for a first step.  You need to know what is required for your particular area in regards to your equipment and location.  I owned a pizza shop, ice cream shop and a bar, if you aren't selling from an inspected environment you are looking at all kinds of issues.  Even with...

Still unsure if I should get a smoker

Just a thought but I grilled and smoked for many many years on both gas and charcoal grill before I bought a dedicated smoker.  Because I grilled way more often than smoking the product, I just added a smoker box to the grill and used it for those smoking occasions.  Now I didn't do 20 hour...

    Sous Vide for reheating

I've been using my Sous Vide to reheat all kinds of foods and have never had an issue with flavor.  I usually get home three hours or so before we eat dinner so I usually don't go a full day.  If I did go a full day I would probably lower the temp to 130 or so.  I pull vac-packed ribs out of the...

    First timer- 3-2-1 ribs

Shouldn't be insulting to anybody, everyone has their own tastes and we all find the way we like it.  I have used mesquite for ribs many times, I really like the taste of mesquite, but if I'm cooking for others I usually don't use it unless I'm sure they will like it.  I'm guessing the OP will...

    Grilling burgers method

Lately, my two favorite ways to cook burgers: Season and Sous Vide at 150 degrees for an hour or so, then flash sear on the grill about a minute for each side.  Real, real juicy burgers! Season and put them in the smoker at 200 degrees until the IT reaches about 125, then flash sear on the...

Help! Doing BB ribs today for first time

Sugar in the rub, sugar over the rub, foil, no foil, temp test, bend test, toothpick test, mustard, oil, they all work!  Just depends on what you are comfortable with and what you are trying to accomplish.  I do all these things under different circumstances and depending on who I am serving...

    Better vac sealer rolls

Sometimes with meats to freeze I add a paper towel or absorbent pad (our local store butcher will give me a few when I buy a bunch of meat and ask nice) on top of the meat before sealing.  When I thaw the meat I just toss the towel or pad and proceed as normal.

    Food for thought

I was under the impression those vents were wind driven, but I suppose heat rising could turn them and increase the draw.  Problem is how to control it, the hotter it gets the more air it pulls, the more air it pulls the hotter the fire.  I think it's good for the attic but probably not for...

Rec Tec Stability Question/ New to Group

I've had mine for over a year now ........ with the hopper full I needed to be careful moving it across the yard, but no issues when it was sitting still, even in high winds.  So, for me at least, only worries when moving it.  Now, last fall we replaced our back porch and added on to it, so the...
