I will prolly get barked at for this, but, I see no reason you couldn't use the leftover wood for smoking as long as it is unfinished oak planks.
Only thing I would say to be careful about is flare-ups since board lumber is typically dryer than wood you have cured yourself.

Buzz is about right....I've done them a couple times also....very tasty, and a pretty short smoke....around 3 hours.
The riblets at Applebee's aren't like the ones I get at our Hy-Vee store....Applebee's uses riblets that are often referred to as "feather bones"

I'll agree with the others on the "bang-for-the-buck" value of RO lump....but, will also offer a recommendation that you give a couple other brands a shot.
One is available at Hawgeyes in Ankeny....the "Wicked Good" lump charcoal...rated as some of the best available by Naked Whiz...
Depending on what type of chip box you have, AND how many chips you put into it for the first burn....they very well may have burned up in an hour's time. You don't need to soak the chips before you smoke either.

True dat!! It definitely adds nice color and gives milder woods like cherry and apple a big flavor boost. Not as strong or 'sharp' as hickory.
Flash, I think your squirrel in that pic should eat some more acorns....maybe it will add a little color to HIM!!....

GO FOR IT! I've used the Wal-mart packer briskets before....they work just fine!
Just pick through their selection and find a "floppy" one and follow the tutorial.
Tough to beat the flavor of a well-smoked brisket......

Instead of bolting it to the drum, why couldn't you get it set in place and attach the gasket rope with the hi-temp silicone so it could be removeable.....??

As with any briquette, there has to be some sort of binder to keep the charcoal dust held together. However, unlike the regular Kingsford briquettes, the Wicked Good briqs use only a natural starch binder....no accelerants.....no ashing components..etc...
As for why you would have an "off"...
Received a couple of responses from peeps at the Iowa Outdoors website....neither one has committed to coming to the gathering, but, one seems to be pretty likely....since he grew up in Rockford....

Here is some information on the campgrounds...
.....and use as many towels as you can in your cooler.....even toss them in the dryer on high for a bit, if you think you'll need the extra holding time. Everything you put in the cooler HOT will help increase the time you can wait.
