Nah, it's just the regular Kingsford charcoal. Not matchlight, no lighter fluid. Not too windy either. I did put it on the charcoal grate with the vents wide open on the bottom...
Hey Guys,
I just used a charcoal chimney for the first time with my Tritip yesterday, and the coals were BLAZING fire the entire time. I thought it was supposed to be a steady burn through the coals.
I just used two pieces of newspaper, set it on my charcoal grate, and let it go.
The fire...
Haha, yeah I have no idea how I never really had tri-tip before. Orange County isn't much of a BBQ locale.
Thanks for the comments, I can't wait to make the next one.
Thunderdome- I did mean to cut it into longer strips (against the grain), but I was too excited to eat it and cut it wrong
I finally got around to cookin up my first ever Tri-tip. I've actually never really EATEN Tri-tip, let alone cook it :)
As some may know from my prior threads, I bought a brand new Weber 22.5" kettle, and I decided to break it in with some BEEF.
Turned out DELICIOUS. Enjoy!

Here's the...
Heck yeah, I ended up getting the Weber 22.5" Gold. It's beautiful. Hopefully gonna do my first tri-tip or steaks on it tonight or this weekend.
Can't wait. I'll try to do QView or "GrillView" if possible. :)
I was just at Home Depot buying a new weber kettle and saw a BEAUTIFUL Brinkmann SnP for $199. That sounded like an awesome price to me, and the Home Depot one doesn't look like the ones you see on their website (which was linked previously in this thread). All black steel, no wood handles...
Man, I bet Deserttoad is REALLY confused now So many good opinions and options out there, haha.
As a GOSM user who's new to smoking, all I gotta say is that I do truly love this thing. Easy to use, great results thus far.
Once you start smoking, you're gonna want to share the goodness...
Wow, when posting this I was leaning towards the Char-griller cause I was excited about getting an off-set smoker out of it too... but now I'm leaning towards the Weber.
I've done a lot of researching too, and that kettle seems like a badass. Especially cause I might get one off craigslist now...
Hey All,
I decided to get a charcoal grill for grilling, not smoking/barbecuing.
I went to Lowe's thinking I was going to get the Weber OneTouch Kettle 22.5" Grill cause I was hoping to get by with <$100 spent, but then saw the Char-Griller Smokin' Pro for $139 (without firebox).
It got me...
Nice job!!
I might have to give the Kirkland a try one day... I'm only using a very basic rub recipe anyways that I don't plan on tinkering with.
Are those ribs from Costco as well? Very meaty!
