My pleasure that's what we are all here for. Whatever oil you use for seasoning make sure you get it on all of the internal surfaces as completely as is possible. Take the racks out and make sure to oil both sides etc... dont forget the door when its up and I actually did wipe down (not spray)...
Very nice. As long as you enjoyed it who cares how it got sliced. You can always focus on that next time. I love tri tip. I lived in Southern California for 40 years (couldnt pay me to move back) and tri tip was pretty much a staple. One of my favs..

Seasoning: I would not use a pan of water. I used PAM and then after about 2 hours of being good an hot I added about 30 pounds of fat that was scraps from the local butcher. Just go in and ask them they will load you up with fat trimmings for free. I let that cook and sizzle for about 2 more...
I have not tried this with a cornbread pancake but have been told its amazing. I usually do all of the above but I slice avocado on top of the slaw and a bit of cheese (I love cheese) and use a corn tortilla heated up on the grill. Sounds about redneck enough. I will have to try out the avocado...
Gonna have to go with Rib Eye. Bone in preferred but definitely Rib Eye. Get a good 1.5 to 2" cut. Or you can always smoke a prime rib to a low IT then cut into desired thickness and finish on grill. Mmmmm Mmmmmm gooood!

Countrykat the Maverick ET-732 is a great thermo with just what you are looking for. Lots of folks on here and in comps etc use them. I have 2. Highly recommended and it has a wireless monitor with high/low for the Q and high for meat with audible alarm. Good luck!

LOL I love cattle they are my second favorite food! No worries and nothing skittish about being around livestock. sounds like it is gonna be a good time!
