Look for the weber lid mod. Basically bolt or weld a strip of metal to the inside of your drum sticking up a half inch or so for the lid to sit on. You can also put a rope gasket inside the lip on your lid

Search on here for the "minion method". It's a tried and true way to load you basket and get the charcoal up to temp. As far as the chimney watch for to much wind I find that starting it and resting it in my drum while it does its thing helps when is windy. Look into the weber fire starters they...
