Thanks! I'm not sure next time I'll use the smokedaddy but I am going to go get some lump charcoal for sure. The less is more with the wood makes a lot of sense.
Also, it makes sense that some have not liked the smoke from the smokedaddy b/c they would add WAY too much wood and b/c of lack...
Hey guys, thought I would throw in my 2 cents also on my use since December.
I have had similar experiences. This just kind of validates what I had been doing and thinking. I've been filling my canister with at least 1/3 full with briquettes. I will admit I have been using the ready light...
I would if I was you. Coming from cooking on either a Weber Q and then a Weber Genesis for over 10 years...I have NO desire to ever cook with gas grill unless it is a blackstone flat top or like the Rec Tec Matador. I had to fire up my Weber the other day and perhaps it was because I hadn't...
It is a kettle style pellet grill. Only one I know of. It gets up to temp very fast and the new one has a PID controller and is stainless steel matching the rest of the Rec Tec line. Grill tops off at 749 degrees. Unlike most pellet grills, it is firepot, then heat diffuser and then grill...
Rec Tec Bull owner here. I love Rec Tec. My buddy has two older Camp Chef woodwinds and he loves them. He even admits he would get a Rec Tec if he could afford that.
So I would say if the budget allows Rec Tec, go for it. If you have a very tight budget - you will be happy with Camp Chef.
I use HD foil to foil the drip pan. A lot of Rec Tec peeps don't even bother and just scrape it when it has build it. I personally would rather foil. I replace after 3 to 4 cooks depending on the cooks.
For the drip bucket, the pit boss ones fit good and that's what I use. Wal-mart sells...
Post some pics when you get it!
Remember some of these comments about smoke flavor. Doesn't matter(at least from what I hear and research wise) what pellet grill you get, the smoke flavor is lighter compared to offset/charcoal ones. I added the SmokeDaddy Magnum PIG to my Rec Tec for the...
This pretty much. If it is a steak like a ribeye or any thicker steak, the grill grates make a huge difference and are worth the money! But pellet grills don't really do the job with searing something like skirt steak. You need direct heat source below.
Biased Rec Tec guy here. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Rec Tec Bull! Through my research, I thought Rec Tec gave the most bang for your buck materials wise and their customer service is unmatched by far.
Good luck!
I am too. I've had enough money saved since early March and have spent time just researching stuff to get for it. I do want to save up eventually for a custom cart by DRG custom carts and also get the side shelf. I do wish it was wi-fi but end of the day it really is not necessary. But yeah...
If money is the issue and zero judgement here and want to start small(but not that small) - consider the Bullseye Beta by Rec Tec. Same size as a Weber kettle but uses pellets. It is more for grilling than smoking but you can smoke on it. You do have to call to buy it as it is not on their...
I will just echo what RCAlan said. You probably saw one of my posts in the other thread. I got my Magnum PIG in December. I've used it maybe like 5 to 10 times. I have been very happy with the results.
I will say I'm not sure why SmokeDaddy's instructions say to fill out completely. That...
Another Rec Tec'r here. I LOVE my Bull. I also have the SmokeDaddy Magnum PIG on my Bull which I just used yesterday to make chicken.
I bought Rec Tec Bull for many reasons but thought it was the best bang for your buck. You can get better like Mak and Memphis supposedly(zero experience...
Rbundy - not sure why you decided to go against the Rec Tec 590. I own the Bull so just to be clear, i'm biased Rec Tec guy but always hear great things about the Stampede. For me, I wanted the little bit more space and I also liked how the Bull looks more like a grill with the hopper in the...
Heat diffusers that are warped(mine is warped) aren't a big deal until it is so bad it pushes against the drip pan. As long as it isn't doing that, you are good.
I've seen people weld pieces of steel rod onto their diffusers which straightened it out.
SmokeDaddy does sell replacement ones...
For most folks, 3.5% is good all year round. I think I have mine back at 5% because winters are cold here in Chicago but will probably go back to 3.5% in the spring/summer.
