For those of you that have smoked several turkeys in the past, I was wondering approximately how long would it take to smoke a whole turkey that is about 12-14 lbs at a temp between 225-250. Trying to figure out what time I'll need to start it for a noon meal on Thanksgiving.
Thanks
All the above advice is great. I also like, when using the outdoor propane fryers, using the 2 people pole method of lowering the turkey into the oil. I had a near miss the first time I fried one several years ago when I tried lowering it by myself.
I also am not a chef but would like to be part of this group to learn what I can. I love cooking and smoking meat. My Dad was a cook in the service and I have learned a lot from him growing up and helping him. No formal training, so I probably won't have much to offer but I know I will learn a lot.
Echoing what everyone else has said, great place for info. Plenty of great folks willing to share their "secrets". There is no question that hasn't been asked or at least somebody that doesn't have an answer for you.

Congrats on the Yoder. I hope it continues to perform to your satisfaction. The Yoder people are good folk. I hope word keeps spreading about their products. Never been disappointed.
Striper,

Dodeen welcome. You have come to the right place for info. Everyone is very willing and there isn't anying that someone hasn't done or have a solution for in regards to smoking meat.
P.S I grew up in Pensacola. Moved to Kansas after college.
Has anyone done a comparison between the Traeger and the Yoder pellet grills. Do the Yoder grills experience the same problems? The things I've seen and read about the Yoder have been pretty positive. Of course, as expensive as Traeger's are, it would be tough to get rid of one and buy a Yoder...
