Where do you put your smoker probe in MES 30?

Oh damn, of course I meant to say right. :)

Where do you put your smoker probe in MES 30?

Hey All, Used my MES 30 a couple of times now, found out on my first smoke the internal probe is way off, so I'll be relying on my Maverick ET-73 for all smokes (should anyway). The other day I wanted to see how much the temperature varied from side to side on the same grate, and I found...

New MES 30 temp differing by 20 degrees

OK, yeah after this smoke I'm going to calibrate the Maverick to see if she's still reading properly.  Had 'er about a year now, and have used it for ~10 smokes in my offset smoker, and have had good Q come out of that. And of course, after I posted this and started searching around in the...

New MES 30 temp differing by 20 degrees

Hmm OK, should I believe the Maverick more than the MES?  :)  I did a ton of reading before starting and most people were reporting that the built in probe was pretty accurate. Also, I just noticed in my picture my probe wire was resting on the internal probe, and I wonder if the heat from the...

New MES 30 temp differing by 20 degrees

Hi All, Got a MES 30 for Christmas, seasoned it yesterday, doing a small butt today. I'm using my Maverick thermo to see how accurate the built in probe is, and I'm see a consistent temperature difference of about 20 degrees. Have the smoker set at 225,and I'm about 2 hours in, but the...

First post, picture of rig, and questions about maintaining temps

So a quick update on today's smoke (I know, derailing the thread). Don't want to jinx it, but things are going better today, maintaining good temps (only 1 dip down to 185 due to wind), 6.5 hours in and meat is at 166. :yahoo: -Kevin

First post, picture of rig, and questions about maintaining temps

So a few clarifications and additions: The dryer vent and bricks are new mods that I have not smoked with yet (I'm doing a 4.5 lbs pork shoulder bone-in today actually). The other note is that I'm using the Maverick Remote Thermometer system, the one with a grill-level probe and a leave-in...

First post, picture of rig, and questions about maintaining temps

Hi All, I'm new to the forum, and new to smoking meat. :)  My wife got me a CharBroil American Gourmet (the cheap one, not the Deluxe) smoker for Christmas.  So far I've done 3 smokes, 2 with Boston Butt (boneless) and 1 with St Lois Cut Ribs.  The pulled pork has been OK, but tough, I haven't...
