Upper rack is the same size. The slideout has "extensions" on each end that are built in and stationary, left and right of the lid, just like the main, botton rack.

I can go about 1 hr 40 min without replenishing coals (13 briquettes per side gives me 245-250*). I start off with top vent fully open and bottom vents closed. As the temp drops to about 215*, I'll open the bottom vents...

Can always "double" or "triple" any foil wrap. Just need to determine what is cheaper. Do I buy the "good" stuff, or go cheap and do the double or triple.
3 openings at the bottom are enough to get started. Once up to temp, usually keep one fully open, close one, crack the other. Of course, all depends of weather conditions too.
