As you could see in my thread, I cut the hole in the tank where the radius began on the end. From the flat top surface to the top of my pipe is 42". The pipe itself was 49".
As you can see in this pic, I cut the end of the pipe at an angle greater than 45 degrees and it is only about an inch...

Check out post 53-56 and post 62 and you'll see the answers I got. I have to say I've done a test burn since that time and had no issues.

Easy way is to measure tank from end to end . Then measure from weld seam to weld seam . Subtract weld to weld from overall tank. Divide the difference by 1/2 and add the result back to the weld to weld length. This is the tank length you want to use.

Been a month or so and I haven't made much progress until the last couple days. Got my handles for the vents on my firebox installed and moved on to a cap for the exhaust pipe. Finally today I managed to get my temp gauges and gauge guards installed. Still coming up with ideas for wood rack on...
Well I bit the bullet and welded the exhaust stack in today using the newest set of #'s from post 29. Worse case, I end up cutting it off "if" for some reason I decide I don't like the height. Better than having to add to it later.
On to the finishing touches.
