    Ground hogs

Unfortunately shooting firearms are banned in my town. I use the have-a-hart traps. Unfortunately for raccoons and ground-hogs they don't swim well in the cages. My parents live in the country and Dad caught a guy dropping off raccoons he had caught in town, the guy didn't understand why...

    Smoked Turtle: Any Suggestions

Fried is my preference. I don't know if it would smoke well or not. Does remind me of many years back some friends invited me to go fishing with them overnight, they had a plan to lay a trotline out, and catch some catfish and turtles. They begged me to go along. Got out there, and they just...

    Hea Cowgirl!!!!!

Lucky you. I never seem to find too many at a time. A few years ago, I found a great spot, and found a good sized bag full. Next year I went back, and couldn't find one, was finding nothing until I saw the picked off stems. Made me steaming mad, since it was private property. Guess someone saw...

    Thinking ahead for winter

I'm currently using a chargrill offset. It doesn't work too bad, but I'm thinking ahead about winter, and colder temperatures and wind. I've got a decent sized garage (If I keep it clean). In one corner is the chimney from the old woodburning stove I had (now gone). I'm not going to use the...

Guess what just showed up at my office?!

A smoker also smells better as it ages too. At least mine does. Everytime I go out to the garage the sweet smell of smoke is out there... The new car smell only lasts for so long, or so I'm told anyways, I've never owned a new car.

    Bitter Meat

As others have said, keep the exhaust completely open. I have no problem with my Chargriller to keep the temps around 225 with the exhaust open. I've even managed to hold at 200 as well. The only time I close the exhaust is after it cools off to help keep it clean.

How and why did you first start smoking meats?

Growing up we didn't really grill all that much, mainly because we didn't know what we were doing, and didn't know how to start charcoal properly. We'd always gather sticks and start a fire in a coffee can and then put on briquettes until it lit. Finally about the time I got into high school...

    Hot Water Tanks: Galvnaized?

I think most of the new ones have a glass lining of some sorts. There are some that have a rubber bladder lining as well. They really aren't too thick though. If you're gonna do it, I'd go with a propane tank or something similar, unless its one of the really old uninsulated water heaters.

    how much charcoal

If I read that correctly, they aren't open at all when you smoke? If thats the case you've got air leak coming from somewhere. For the fire to burn hotter it requires fuel and air. If you can't control the air, you're going to have problems. In a "perfect" smoker, if you cut off the air dampers...

    Birthday Ribeye Roast

As others have said, as long as the wife loves it, all is good - Happy wife, happy life... My wife laughed at me for taking pictures and posting them here and on facebook for friends to see. Then about a week ago, I happened to leave up the forum on the computer, and she saw some pictures on...

    Hey Trailer Smokers

If it is already licensed, go ahead and transfer the title. Not owning a boat or trailer, I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure there is no difference in trailer types. They should all fall under the TA license type.

    Hey Trailer Smokers

In Illinois, you'll want to get it licensed. Otherwise you'll be at the mercy of any state police officer who happens to see it. Here's what it breaks down to. If the trailer body was made by a company, and has a identification number, its not that bad. If it does not have a manufacturers ID...
