Any one take Omeprazole or Prilosec?

$.02 I had *really* bad heartburn when I was pregnant, and for what I see as obvious reasons did not want to take pills.  Eliminating carbonated beverages, using lots of pillows at night for propping me up and taking a TB or two of Apple Cider Vinegar twice a day all helped. Thankfully, it...

What do you guys do when you are having troubles getting your AMazeNSmoker going?

I save all those little packets!! LOL I find them in pockets of suits, shoeboxes, etc and have been known to toss them in with my powdered mustard, my powdered dextrose... anything that may go clumpy on me.

    Powdered smoke flavoring?

I don't often share NEGATIVE opinions, but since you asked for experience... I don't care for the flavor of "smoke flavorings" and have run into a few that also contain MSG, which causes me to have tremendous migraines. $.02 -Princess

    Happy Peppercorn Day!

Girl!! My "old school" books are so full of folklore as to make you SCREAM!! Mrs Beeton's is my fave... I nabbed my copy for real cheap at a used bookstore in New Orleans (the man did not even know what he had...) and I giggle everytime I crack the cover. A modern reprinting is here: I just...

    Happy Peppercorn Day!

If knowledge was power? I'd be Optimus Prime. ;) Seriously... If I had unlimited time and money, I'd produce my own show on this stuff.  I'd call it "You Should Know Something About What You Eat" and I'd make sure to avoid the Alton Brown-esqe CRAZY CAMERA ANGLES and the Giarda...

    Happy Peppercorn Day!

I only like history when it's food related!! :)  Do you have this one?   Seriously got me nerding about food even more than I do now... and that is saying something!! I have a great natural food store here that allows me to buy my peppercorns in bulk, a few oz at a time. Just opening those...

    Happy Peppercorn Day!

Most people already know the importance of salt (the base of the word "salary" is indeed due to wages once being paid in salt) in financial history, but did you know that Peppercorns were the spice that launched the Nina, The Pinta and the Santa Maria? Happy Columbus Day!! As Americans, today...

What is the general concensus as to the safety of cooking food this way?

You know... I wonder how many of us "ex-smokers" are on here?  I quit tobacco four years ago.

First time Brats w/Q-View - Thanks Princess!!

I'm one of those freezer-people I just do it to keep it cold-cold-cold.  I don't like my meat to get over that 40 degree mark if I can help it. -Princess

    Oxidation on pots, pans, etc

Thanks, NWDave!! This is exactly what I mean!! See, that's just it. I read "not safe" and the only thing I can come up with is that they oxidize, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why oxidation would not be "safe"  Not pretty? Sure. Not safe? Where do they get that from? I also bleach...

    SSSSnake Bites for Halloween

We do one VERY similar with (cooked) meatballs wrapped in dough and placed in sections. Stick skinny prtzels out the side of each section, paint it green and you have a "Caterpillar"  I like the snake idea too! Looks like fun!! Very cool!

    Oxidation on pots, pans, etc

Well, I'm looking at my grinder parts (specifically my hopper, the screw itself and the nut that holds the screw and the die in place.) So I sure as heck am not making bechamel here! :)  I cannot get it to rub off by hand, though have not tried "Bartenders Friend" or any other commercial product...

First time Brats w/Q-View - Thanks Princess!!

In my 1st Summer Sausage post (there are two of them) I show how much is lost to trim and the like. Deciding what goes and what stays is hard! I'm also putting together a post on the Care and Feeding of an Electric Grinder and I show what Too Much Fat can do to your grinder's die... icky fat...

    Oxidation on pots, pans, etc

Some metal items, if placed in a dishwasher, or washed at certain temperatures, or with certain chemicals can change color. Super shiny stocks pots can go a lusterless gray, for example. Have you had this happen to you? This process is called Oxidation. It can be unsightly, sure, if you care...
