    Water Pan or Not??

I'm a little south of cape caution, closer to Vancouver Island actually, but I liked the Dangerous Catch reference so I put it that way.  Its not the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from here.

    Water Pan or Not??

If your dyna-glow is like my gas smoker the water pan provides separation between the burner and the cooking chamber, necessary for indirect cooking.  So it should be in there, what should be in your pan is another matter.  Two basic schools of thought, water or no water.  Its a matter of...

    First lamb ever w/ Q-View

I think if you don't like lamb, you probably wouldn't like mutton.  I lived on an island that had sheep running wild on it.  Summer get togethers usually involved roasting one on an open fire.  We tried to take yearlings, but they still had a strong flavor.  When I moved off and went back to...

    Too Long in "Danger Zone"?

As long as the meat is not a boneless cut, or if you have not injected it, then you are ok.

    Anyone having trouble with quotes?

I just tried to quote using the mobile site, I'm not sure how that site works.  I hit the quote button, but there was no text that I could see.  But I may just be confused as to what it would look like, I've never used the mobile before.  It appears to be just that one thread, so its not really...

    Anyone having trouble with quotes?

When I push the quote button a box with the member's screen name appears but no other text is with it.  It seems to be only happening on one thread though.  Other members have used the quote function, but I am unable to.  The thread is titled First PP.  And, yes I'm on desktop mode.

    Attempting First PP

Personally I would choose to rub earlier rather than latter, and let the rub sit on the meat longer.  But its not a big issue, if its more convenient to do it the other way, then it'll be fine.

    Garden issues...

Adding gypsum to soil will help break down clay.  It comes in a granular form, and you should be able to find it at a garden center.

    Hello from Kearney, Mo.

Hey Pig slayer welcome to the site.  I too am a smokeaholic, and I invite you to join our smokeaholics anonymous 12 step program.  I  have a gas smoker that I've considered converting to charcoal.  What are you using as a charcoal basket?  Good luck and good smokin'.

    Help with ribs, please.

What kind of thermo are you using.  If it is the stock one in the door/lid then that could be your problem.  I had one factory thermo that read 325* when it was closer to 225* in the smoker.  Yours could have the opposite problem, and temps are higher than you think.  If you don't already have a...

New member could use some advice after upgrade from ecb

I'm aware that coal is a raw material in the manufacturing process used by some brands, such as kingsford.  But it is converted to pure carbon as part of the manufacturing process, and the end product contains no coal.  It would be like saying a jug of white vinegar contains natural gas.  It is...

New member could use some advice after upgrade from ecb

At the risk of high-jacking this thread I went to motherearthnews.com and read a 1992 article titled guide to wood and coal stoves.  I saw no mention of charcoal briquettes containing coal.  Can you point me to where this article says briquettes contain coal?
