Thanks for the reply Beernuts. I did get the unit replaced and proceeded just like you said. What is worrisome is that you've replaced your controller 3 times? Wow that does seem like a lot.
I was wondering if any of you that have received a replacement controller yet for their smokers have actually installed them yet. I have mine and have been putting off replacing the old controller. It looks simple enough to do. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Ok.. My first BSR is finished. The meal was fabulous and yes, I do have qview to share.

Well that's it. I'm a believer now in long bone short ribs. Got a really good price on them at the Farmer's Market here in York, PA...
I'm doing long bone BSR's this weekend in my MES. I plan on using Hickory for smoke mixed with some crushed lump charcoal. Any opinion on Oak for this? For seasonings, I'm thinking the KISS method this time out (Sea Salt/Pepper/Garlic) although using Jeff's rub is very tempting. Planned cooking...
That thin red strip on the topside of your rib. Its hard to get that effect with an electric smoker alone. I've heard folks mixing crushed charcoal briquets or lump charcoal along with wood chips to obtain the smoke ring. I was wondering if you used any of those.
I was just about to ask about creating the "smoke ring" using an electric smoker. I will use this technique on my next smoke which will be a full brisket. Thanks for the info TG!
Tanx for the quick comeback Sarge. I just went to that website and those controllers look pretty impressive. I'm just a bit confused as to how it bypasses the existing controller on my MES. Does it simply turn the MES into a box and the control of the heating element transfers to the PID?
Just talked with MB Customer Service and they claim to have the controllers available. I gave her my name and addy and she said it could take 7 business days via UPS to arrive. I guess that's progress to a degree. If this doesn't work out, There is a place out here in PA that has Amish built...
Thanks goodness I've been reading the posts about this unit's controller issues. I got my Mav 732 ready to go just in case the unit goes off the rails again. The bad thing with that is the auto cutoff feature that is controlled by the controller. If the temps read higher than the suggested box...
Dave, As it turns out you were right. My controller has mysteriously started working again. All I did was run up the temp in the MES to max, ran it for 3 hours and then let it cool down naturally. The weather here has moderated quite a bit as well to the warmer side. I just checked the unit for...
Update.. My MES 40 just had its first major issue. The Controller went whacky on me as the internal temp read 310F this morning when the unit had been off all nite and the outside temp was 27F. I called MES customer service where Becky kindly explained to me that the controllers were on back...
Well, my MES40 Gen2's Controller finally gave up the ghost last night. Started to cold smoke some bacon today at around 0730. Outside temp was roughly 25F and dry but my controller read 310F. Ok, so I knew that was way off but I figured the unit must have gotten frozen over night or some...
I'm still learning my MES 40 Gen 2 but so far, temp monitoring aside, this unit has produced my most moist, tasteful smoked meats ever. All the removable parts fit in the dishwasher and keeping the window glass clean is challenging but not impossible. If you add on a Maverick 732 unit and...
