i think it is all part of the learning curve and the adventure. i think there is substance to both sides of this coin. I just finished looking at the downloadable cooking log they have a weather block on there maybe i should start using it.
I just looked at the stats on weather.com, it almost 10:00pm here in portsmouth, va and the temp is 70 degrees and humidity is 72%. When I use a water pan the boil-off saturates the air to 100% humidity. I really believe I was doing just as much steaming of my food as I was smoking it. My bark...
Been tweaking and adjusting the process with my adopted charcoal gosm, figured I would go for it today. 2 small butts their starting weights was 4.85 lbs amd 4.83 lbs.
thru them in the smoker and let them go low and slow. The only snag was butt #2 was in an odd little holding pattern at 185...
Smoked 2 butts today and I loved the results using sand. I will be posted q-view under pork with the title "labor day - 2 butts". Again thank you all for your input.
a prayer for for serenity and peace for you and your family and a prayer that your son will be safe and protected during this time. I think i will say an one for all those living on the gulf coast too.
I think that is part of the fun of this new adventure, is finding out what works for me. what is the personality of my smokers. How do they react in the wind and rain. How do i react and over come.
Part of me reasoning for changing over to sand is i was not developing the dark rich bark i...
Just like flash, here in coastal virginia the humidity is normally high. The reason I was wondering about seasoning the sand is most sand from lowes and the home depot are stored in the garden center. I know it should be ok but somewhere in the back of my mind I wonder what chemical cocktail...
I guess for me it becomes an availability issue. I will have to make do with the best i can get. doitbest.com hardware will deliver RO to a store near me i think i will explore that option too. It looks like 20 lbs for $12.00 and no shipping that might be the deal. Thanks a million for all the...
thank you millions for all the great input. doing some test runs as we go along here, i hope to do a full blown smoke this week and will provide q-view
Okay folks i have been pondering the switch from water to sand. My question is do you season sand like you do a new smoker to eliminate any impurities? Do you wash it? The play sand at Lowes has set out in the garden center for who knows how long... this may all be just a mid afternoon...
I saw big green egg 100% natural lump charcoal as I was going through the check out at my local hardware store. Has anyone tried it? Any reviews? RO is tough to find around town i was wonderin is this a good alternative?
My options are like rich p, the choices of lump charcoal is CB or nothing at all. I occasionally find RO, but it is not the made in usa bags that I have read about. the quality of the RO i have been getting is nothing to brag about. I think it(RO) contains a high percentage of sap wood, CB on...
