I agree- I often will do a shoulder with just kosher salt and somehow....it often comes out better than when I go with the full shabang of rub and injections. Definitely give it a try- it will surprise you how simplicity can create an amazing product.
Alright-
I am going to do some smoked wings this weekend. They are on sale, I am doing a pork shoulder but wanted some sides.
My (tentative) plan:
Cut the flapper off and divide the wings up into drummettes and wingettes. Marinade for a few hours in Italian dressing and THE BBQ RUB from...
So, since I have been in the game I have been reluctant to try bbq places, mainly because they usually don't know what they are doing and/or cater to the masses who don't know bbq. I hit up Dinosaur BBQ in Baltimore while on vacation l last weekend since I had heard good things and seen them on...
Wow that's a pretty good endorsement.
Any issues with the cooking space?
How does it hold temps in cold/heat? How low/high can you get it?
Ever have any issues with it sucking down propane?
Thanks again!
I am looking into a new propane smoker and I have been researching these two. They seem fairly similar, with similar pros/cons.
Anyone care to offer up an opinion on one vs the other? Are there any concrete advantages to one?
IF you have another propane smoker that is superior please let me...
I generally have to cut them. I definitely recommend the masterbuilt dual fuel. You have to modify the chip pan, I simply took the water pan and placed it on the burner and put the wood in there which worked great. I then use half size hotel pans for the water pans.
I am also in the market for a new propane smoker. I have a master built 30" which I loved, but have run into the ground and would like to upgrade (I have a Backwoods Party so I want to pair it with a propane for when I am lazy). I was considering a smoke hollow 44 but have been reading some...
Looks awesome! Thanks for sharing!
What did you season it with? I have not smoked anything but chicken on my Weber but I'd like to try larger cuts for the challenge. I love the simplicity of it!
I am really considering buying the 44241G2 44 inch model but the main point would be for cold weather. I have a masterbuilt now that has no issue in the cold but is on its last leg. Are there truly issues with this operating in cold weather??
Been smoking fairly steady for the last 18 months. Started with a masterbuilt gasser which I have promptly run into the ground, I don't believe they were made for the use I got out of it! Got a Backwoods party on the way (can't wait!).
Live outside of Washington, D.C. Not alotta bbq heads...
