Sand and 3 layers of heavy tinfoil works well too. Pan 1/2 full of play lot sand is what I used. Cover w foil, change top layer every other smoke. I think my sand actually cam out the kids sand box at the time....JD
I need charcoal recommendations. I am using a vertical 2 door Brinkmann charcoal smoker and in 11.5 hrs I went through almost a full bag of Kingsford Original ( blue and white bag ). I was adding 4-5 briquettes every 30-40 min. to keep the temp at 235. I was very happy to get it to hold and...
Thanks Dave. I just downloaded it from that link for myself. Sounds like a pretty low temp unit overall - If you work within that confine all should be well. Yes I know I jumping in on someone else's thread.....haha. JD
Good day all. I just bought a Luhr-Jensen Little Chief (used-like new-$20) and want to use it for cheese and/ or snack sticks. My cousin told me last night cheese is easy and I need a "smoke generator". He said people just make them out of anything. Could someone here tell me what that is or how...
Just bought it used- 20.00. Trips gfci's in garage and won't come up to temp- really slow climb. Right now its on a heavy cord to a regular outlet. Is it worth it? I have a hot plate I could put in and try. Any pointers ? Or did I just lose 20 bucks?. I just want a cheap electric.
Sorry guys, but the forum upload locks up when I try to post pics....so they are a above as attachments - worked fine from my phone though - strange.
So, my WHOLE problem was the 2 top vents I believe. I was checking this forums replies as I was "in the smoke" and that's when (themule69) posted...
I will post a recap tomorrow on how the whole thing went. The butt was unbelievably good. My wife called friends over to take samples home to their hubbies. I am very thankful for all of the insight here. More tomorrow. Beers now
Well. I left it for an hour to go see my sons baseball game down the street and that was a mistake. I threw in 5 coals before I left and it was at 235...when I got back just now it was at 168 . So 10 went in and now vent adjust. See what happens. The top vents are open....I think that was a big...
I am in it right now. Closed bottom vents and open both top completely. Temp is holding at 234-6so far for an hour or so. More to come today ( 10hr smoke). I have to add 3-5 coals every 40 min or so.
Soooo.....did any of you come up with a "magic bullet" to solve the high temp issue? I have the exact same smoker, exact same mods, and exact same problems. I am thinking of switching smokers...any ideas under 300? mod'd or not, I just want a dependable one.
Can any of you around here point me to previous threads or topics ( here or elsewhere ) on Brinkmann square charcoal smokers? I am having temp issues - too high.
Need help. I have a Brinkmann vertical square charcoal smoker and I guess I am alone here - my temps run too hot. Everyone else with this smoker can't seem to get the temps up high enough. I have the basic mods done, grilling wok for coal pan, sand in water pan, felt seal around upper door...
Update. I used the Big green egg felt tape and sealed the top door ( improvement? - hard to tell ) and fired it up with some chicken quarters last night. Ran it at 250-260 just fine for 3 hrs. Now today I put the Pork Butt in at 6 am and it went straight to 265-270. So I have it chocked down now...
