    5/23 smoke

I got her fired up this morning and have 2 butts and a brisket going. I'm attempting to be diligent in the q-view today! (I hope I put this in the right place - wasn't sure as I have pork and beef). Trying some GFS lump today - I read on here it's RO with a GFS label. Here's the start..........

    Mods to Charbroil Silver Smoker

What do you all think about moving the stack below the racks? I'm thinking about making my silver a reverse flow - as long as I have to move the stack I would like to get those extra few inches of rack back by moving the stack underneath. Thanks, Jeff

    SFB Refurb Planned

That's just what I wanted to see!! Now I'll just need to figure dimensions that will allow proper heat flow while leaving room to set a pan of beans under the rack and a butt.

    SFB Refurb Planned

A year ago I never would imagine doing this. Reading SMF has accelerated my learning curve and brought me to new levels of smoking. So............... I've have a SFB smoker someone gave me several years ago. There was nothing on the smoker to identify just what it was. Finally reading a...

Source and/or material for jerky shelves

I've been looking for something to make jerky racks too. I'm not sure why I have it in my head that it's bad. But, is it safe to use aluminum in a smoker? I know I use foil but something got this thought in my head. I saw some inexpensive aluminum racks the other day but didn't pick them up.

    Ground Venison Jerky

Here's my recipe for shooter jerky. The added liquids help keep it together when shooting. I have dropped the liquid smoke and put in the smoker. The best results I had were smoking for a short period of time with mesquite the finishing in the dehydrator. I went Alton Brown on a batch a few...

.. who else knows the One Finger Smoker Salute!..

My worst wasn't the smoker. Anyone remember Visions cookware (many years ago)? All glass. If you used it on the cooktop the handles stayed cool. But you could also use it in the oven. Made some rice pilaf in the oven, took it out with mitts and set it on top of the stove. Grabbed both the...

    Lodge Dutch Oven cooking

I thought I had a pic with the contents but I guess not. Start with something simple to get the feel for how it works. This had a beef roast that i seared then slow cooked. Added taters and carrots after a while. It came out better than I expected - very tender and juicy. Obviously this...

smoking jowl whats the best way to eat it?

Treat it like bacon - best way to eat it I have tried is fry it up and make a sandwich. What we call the jowl is pretty much the neck but I guess does include the cheeks. Cut it off the head in one piece.

What have you gained from SMF?

For starters.......... Fatties and ABTs, Great recipes!!! And probably most importantly, although I have been smoking for a while I was learning by trial and error. This site really shortened the learning curve on many aspects of smoking for me. I don't post a lot but I have read tons of...
