I would worry about an infestation at my house. I did demolition on a house at Pinacle Peak Az. He had brought them with firewood and they ate his wood floors. I would think you would not get a good burn but I am not sure.

I like to stay away from sealents though I did use it on my stack. I think you could use screws. I am not sure if sealent would hold it because it is springy!
Mom used to put just a pinch of sugar in the beans. I had forgotten all about it until you mentioned sugar in the corn bread. I use molasses sometimes too
Just bought a bison prime rib roast from the local co-op. Have to wait for a special occasion as it was pricey. Had one at Christmas and it was good. Came in at just over 8 pounds. Salivating already! Points for Bison Dude I love it!
I got some metal door gasket and am going to rivet it in. It is like springy metal that will let the door set on it.

Took the bone from the Easter ham (Cherry chipolte) and threw in the crock with some beans. The smokiness is coming through. Waiting for the Lady then yum! beans and cornbread! Oh yow, threw some Old Bay in just to be onery!
