    WSM and cold weather

I know this is an old thread. I have a question about using a welding blanket in a different way. I know it is intended to keep heat in while in cold weather. I live in southern Nevada and I don't have that issue although wind can be an issue at times. I have a Weber SmokeFire that when it...

    Meater Block Buyer Beware ***UPDATE***

I am happy to say that I got mine working. I have a Netgear extender that splits the wifi signals and I was able to connect my iphone to the 2.4 channel. Moved the block and phone next to the NG extender and did the update. Switched back to 5.0 on the phone and am now communicating with 4...

    Meater Block Buyer Beware ***UPDATE***

I was thinking about the update. Someone mentioned that they received an updated block directly from the manufacturer. Great, but what about the next update? Same problem creeps in and you are dead in the water again. Is it just 2.4 vs 5.0 ghz that causes this? It must function fine on 5.0 but...

    Meater Block Buyer Beware ***UPDATE***

I just got my Block from Amazon (thankfully it appears as it is probably going back). I am in the same boat as everyone here. Update fails and can't get beyond it. Even probes won't connect with block on or off. My Xfinity modem doesn't distinguish between 2.4 and 5 so I can't get the connection...

    ThermoPro TP-18 calibration questions

Does the TP-18 self calibrate? I see no way to make an adjustment where other thermometers are adjustable by the user. I am at sea level so the thermometer should be showing 32F, but is 34.6F. Boiling test shows 214.3F to 216.1F

Feeling a little like a traitor

So I smoked some ribs on my Weber Genesis grill yesterday instead of the MES 30. They came out as good as any ribs I have done on the MES 30. I am sure that someone with a more sensitive pallet than me would have a different opinion. I intended on doing 3 - 2 - 1, it ended up being 2 - 2 - 1/4...

    Hamburgers came out blah

Does that apply to all smokes or just burgers?

    Hamburgers came out blah

Thanks for all the quick responses. I do appreciate it. Going to have give the brisket grind a try. Max temp on the MES is 275. Although it easily goes above that without warning. I do have a Weber Genesis gas grill, which at the moment is grilling the burgers the way I like them. :) 500F...

    Hamburgers came out blah

They were edible, but blah. Watched a youtube video that looked tasty so I followed the instructions. 85/15 One egg for binder Mccormick hamburger seasoning Worcestershire sauce Smoker 225F Water in the pan Applewood chips Cooked to 160F Came out looking grey like the soap bubbles that the...

Affixing an oven probe to MES 30 back wall?

Affixing an oven probe to MES 30 back wall?

Thank you - that helps alot. I read your post in the link. Very informative. Although I don't understand why it has to swing so much. Maybe the control panel just isn't starting and stopping the cycles at the correct temps. It might just be a programming thing. Anyway the swings don't bother...

Affixing an oven probe to MES 30 back wall?

Go the Thermopro TP20 in and did an ice test and a boil test. Ice test shows 36F - boil test dead on at 212F. So I am now trying to find a starting temp to set on the MES for a cooking temp of 225F. The current temp setting is 205F. The MES is showing and holding steady around 209F. The TP20...

Gary you may have missed my post above yours. I have done the tests.

Affixing an oven probe to MES 30 back wall?

Well no one has called me nuts yet, but it looks like someone should have. I do have an iGrill 2 and use it every time with the oven probe and the meat probe. I did an ice test and a boil test. I am at sea level. Ice test between 29F and 34F, wouldn't hold a temp. Boil test - oven probe 208F -...

Affixing an oven probe to MES 30 back wall?

I have the clip. I am looking to make it more permanent.

Affixing an oven probe to MES 30 back wall?

I am brainstorming affixing an oven probe to the back wall of my MES 30 smoker. I want to attach it as close as possible to the built in thermometer. My first thought was to staple gun it in place, but that brings up a concern of puncturing the wall as well as possibly nicking some wires behind...

Temp rising above set temp - way up there

I did the freeze/boil test and the iGrill2 passed. Doing a pork roast right now and i moved the iGrill2 probe towards the top of the oven and now the smoker and the iGrill2 are within a couple degrees of each other. When doing the test I probably had the probe to close to the element. I think...

Temp rising above set temp - way up there

Got my replacement control panel installed. Did a 2 hour temp test. Set for 225F Held at around 230F per the MES thermometer. Also ran the iGrill2 at the same time. It reported 247F. Was always within 17 degrees. So now the question which one to believe? Probably the iGrill2. That raises the...

Temp rising above set temp - way up there

Well can't beat the customer service at Masterbuilt. I am out of warranty and they are going to send me the control panel at no charge, since this is my first time ever needing a part. Future part replacements will be at cost. Whoopee!! :)
