Try hardware stores. We have two different chains near us (Ace and one other I can't recall the name of). Both carry more than the hickory, mesquite. I'm certain they carry apple -- cause that is what I buy. I've also bought pecan but not sure it is a regular stock there.
I just got an email from my son who is deployed in the middle east. In it he said:
There are folks here that would love to get smoked meats. Like jerky? The more exotic the jerky the more interesting the jerky seems to be. The Captain sitting next to me got some jerky from some friend and is...
My son agrees with that. He helps out the chow with hot sauce. Somewhere along the way, he got past me in his heat level. My wife and I are "Jalapeno hot" but he goes for the habanero sauce.
Someone asked me for the rooster nuts recipe. Here it is:

I have found a variety of wood chip flavors available in our area. Stores are Lowe's hardware and various hardware stores (e.g. ACE). Typical prices are about $4.99-5.99 for a pound bag, enough for 2-3 smokes easily.
Look at anyplace that sells smokers, and they ought to have chips.
Very nice idea Todd.
We send care packages to our son often. He is stationed in a small country on the gulf. My wife does things like dehydrate and vacuum seal food, such as humus, vegetarian chili, home made cup-o-soup. They ship light weight, and keep well in the hot climate.
She has...
One of our favorite dishes is chicken piquant -- pretty much using a recipe straight out of chef Paul Pruddome's book, Louisiana kitchen, except that we cut down on the number of jalapeno peppers.
In our visits to Louisiana, it is one dish that we have not seen in any of the restaurants. ...
I imaging that the store product is a lot more expensive than flour, which is all you need to make it at home.
For those who don't know what we are talking about, here is a listing of two methods for making dry roux.

Very good. I try to keep a log on each smoke I do. It helps to know what worked and what did not work. The entries as the smoke goes on are very important to me. I've been doing that on the back side of old scrap prints.
I'm going to take a look at your form and see if I can make a one page...
If you think that is cheating, look up the recipe for the gumbo I make frequently. Do a google on "smoked chicken and pepperoni gumbo". You'll get thousands of hits to recipe sites that have snagged that recipe I created more than 15 years ago when I first started doing some Cajun cooking. ...
I'm pretty stuck on my old DOS based recipe program, but would like to hear features. In particular, does it have the ability to embed pictures?
I think I remember hearing that it did dietary analysis of recipes. I have used a windows program called Mastercook that claimed to do that also. ...
Echo what they said. I bought my 30 inch MES about 4 years ago, and have liked it all the way. It has not been without problems, but none I could not fix. In fact, it is on my work bench right now getting the connection wires fixed up again (last time did not hold, so I'm trying to do better...
One thing that I have noticed is that sometimes the stuff coming out of the drip tube doesn't go into the catch pan on the back, but wicks around to under the unit. Because of that I got into the habit of putting a piece of aluminum foil underneath.
