    newbie questions

I found images off google (below)...but essentially I used the silver pan as my base- and have it resting on 2 cement blocks so I can lift it off during the smoke- plus air should get through the bottom of it. I drilled out the former water pan for my charcoal- the charcoal pan is now drilled...

    newbie questions

No rope ring for me, and my charcoal bowl is drilled-- 5 holes on opposing sides, then 2 holes on the other opposing sides. Also used bolts to raise my charcoal bowl up off the bottom, along with the 10.5" grate, raised by 2 metal tubes. I have it all resting on the original (silver) charcoal...

    newbie questions

Mods are all done (although I think the holes in my 2 lid vents might be small)- a few questions to start with... 1-what is a good 'first smoke'? Just want to learn fire control, etc...but possibly still be able to eat the food I cook, lol 2-Once i've nailed down temps, brisket is going to be...

    new guy grill reccomendations

Thanks for the explanation, that helps a lot! So, if im reading your post correctly, I can use more charcoal with wood chunks to compliment it rather than solely wood-While still using a side burner, and still turn out ok (obviously, depending on my abilities, keeping temps good, etc)?  Did I...

    new guy grill reccomendations

How much wood, on average (I underatand there are many factors) would a side box stick burner go through for 1 cook?

    new guy grill reccomendations

Approximately how much wood would I use for, say a Brisket, on a side fire box through the course of a smoke? There is a local BBQ shop that sells 1.7cu feet (aprox 25-30lb) of Hickory for $25....would that get me through 1 cook if yall were guessing?

    new guy grill reccomendations

1- I might be moving to KC (so that might change the wood situation), but 2- (sorry if I seem super naive) but couldn't I source wood chucks from a local BBQ store and/or Amazon? I understand it isn't as cheap as getting the wood itself but, would that still yield good BBQ?
