First Smoke! (Pork butt with Q-View!)

Pork Butt was 5.23 lbs with a large amount of fat trimmed off the bottom.  Not ideal I know, but what the butcher had and I didn't realize until I got home. Washed, patted dry, EVOO-ed, and rubbed this morning at about 7AM.  Rub: 1/2 Tbsp Salt 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar 2 1/2 Tbsp Chili Powder 1...

    Seasoning the Smoker

Yes, propane.  I think the 400 may have partially been all the chips flaring as well.  The built in thermometer has been steady at 225 ish for quite awhile and only the chips near the center of the chip pan seemed to smoke... May have to remember that for tomorrow.  As I sit here I realize what...

    Seasoning the Smoker

So I got the Masterbuilt 2-door all together, cleaned, and Pam-ed.  Hooked it up and turned it on.  I made myself a foil pouch of hickory and apple wood chips cause that is what I plan on using tomorrow.  However, shortly after turning it on I had to run inside and came back out to find my pouch...

    Howdy!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!  The plan right now is to put the smoker together and season it today.  Then I will get the pork on first thing in the AM tomorrow.  I am trying to decide what rub and sauces I want to try!

    Easily available thermometer

I see lots of recommendations for the mavericks and thermapen thermometers.  I am thinking of investing in one of these, however I haven't been able to find them in stores.  I am looking to do a pork butt this weekend and do not have time to wait for an online order to get here.  Is there any...

    Howdy!

Brand spankin' new here!  Well, not brand new, I lurked for a day or two first and then decided to join. First name: Joe I just bought a Masterbuilt Vertical Gas Smoker with Dual Door from Sears and am looking for advice.  Should I season the smoker before first use? I read somewhere else...
