    The Fleet is Complete

I've only cooked on the silver one, just burn Ins on the other two. It's the standard 8 1/2" holes, use magnets to 'open/close' the exhaust. On a full charcoal basket, which is about two big bags of charcoal each, they all held 230-260 for 24 hrs+ with just the bottom air intake open.

    The Fleet is Complete

Hey guys, Just wanted to share with you guys my finished fleet of barrel smokers. Had a blast building them, took alot more work than I thought it would. Followed the basic plan and made a few of my own changes along the way. Let me know what you think!

    Charcoal Basket Ideas?

I used expanded metal and a charcoal grate from a 22 weber. I made the sides 16" high which I found out is way too high. My drum ran for 28 hours at 250 this weekend on a full load.

    Exhaust question

I drilled 8 1/2” holes and then use 1” round magnets to cover them if needed.

    Here we go!

Going to need some input here. I ordered full port valves off of Amazon, they were 1/4 of the price of the valves at Home Depot and now I know why... Do you guys think they'll still work? I'll have 3 intakes per barrel...

    Here we go!

Watch your barrel fires guys. I went inside for 10 minutes and the sidewalk block exploded and tipped the barrel over

    Here we go!

If the coating can handle 400 degrees what would be the purpose of the burn out? Couldn't I just leave the coating alone and smoke in the barrel just fine?

    Here we go!

I'll know as soon as the burn starts I guess....

    Here we go!

I don't think so, it chips off and is bubbling in spots. Seems to me like a thin coat of paint

    Here we go!

All loaded up for a burn day tomorrow! The barrels used to hold yogurt, so they have a thin coating on the inside.

    Gotta Buy A New One...

$800 Drum, seems steep. OkJ is releasing a Bronco Pro model, I think that's the name, looks pretty heavy duty.

    Gotta Buy A New One...

I was looking at the Pit Barrel Smokers at Canadian Tire the other day, they seem simple enough but don't seem to be able to hit the low temps. Reviews say they hover around that 275 to 325 range, which is way too hot for me

    Gotta Buy A New One...

The selling point on the chubby is the cold weather smoking.Once it gets up to temp, it should hold it longer than the WSM, in theory anyways. Anyone have a chubby and want to chime in?

    Gotta Buy A New One...

The problem I'm having is sourcing. Tough to find smokers in Canada. The Weber is half the price of the chubby so maybe that is the best option.

    Gotta Buy A New One...

Just sealing it up, heavier door, hinged lid and probably some casters
