Thanks : The Rod underneath the doors is a lock I will take another pic to show it better it just goes through some plates and a hitch clip keeps it in place. As far as the paint I put 4 coats and used Sheffields Pot Belly Stove Paint. I have used it for years and has always held up well.

I would use it and reinforce it whether its one or two doors. Its pretty long and I would bet either way you could get a sag around the doors if you don't get some kind of reinforcement. Look forward to watching the work

Sometimes the scrap yard has big diameter pipe schedule 40 and plate for ends some places sell by the lb some sell buy the ft. Doesn't hurt to check . Around here scrap is really cheap right now the prices have dropped a lot lately
