My grand parents on my dad's side have a farm in NC, made the best ham and sausage I ever had. Once I finally settled down to some degree, I got my first smoker (1993) and started messing around with it.
17 years later the interest is as strong as ever.
The competition side really has...
Atleast once - more is better - before the competition, take everything you think you will need outside and sit in your own backyard with it. Have the goal of not going in the house for anything. Run through the whole "competition"; building your turn in boxes, everything.......take tons of...
Oh......and just for the record, my best overall finish is 3rd.......but Myron wasn't at that one so I am not sure it counts. Had a weak brisket score that cost me.........oh well......in any case......no championship here.
I know Myron is referring to MIM wins........
Some say winning the Jack or Royal would be more prestigious since it is about the cooking and no dog and pony portion like MIM.
Seen others make a case for KCBS TOY being the best there is.
I suppose it will just depend on who you...
Have you tried Excel?
I have always been happy with that brand. I can't say that I have really watched for the pull back too closely, but mine is generally minimal.
Edit: that is for spares.....I don't do enough loin/baby back to comment.
I very seldom buy a brisket from there, but I always look when I find myself in there for something else. Occassionally, I will find one I like, but it isn't often enough for me to really turn to them when I need to pick up several or even really consider them as a good source for brisket...
That should work.
FWIW......I start checking at 190 or so in the flat.....some are done then, some aren't, stick it with a fork, temp probe, whatever......it should go in an out without much resistance........if you get some push back, it needs more time.
As chuckwagon said.....you just need...
I guess frog legs would be the oddest. Did a cheesecake before........might seem odd. I don't know......most anything I eat has been attempted in the smoker at least once. LOL
Get a Stumps.

.......but yeah, I know what you mean. Most of the mass produced, readily availble smokers out there leave something to be desired......sometimes even after the mods.
Wish I would have seen this before I started the same thread.
Up in the air for me........Saturday is a bust and Sunday has no firm plans.
Mods.........kill the other thread if you wish.
Saturday is shot for me thanks to kids swim meet. Who knows for Sunday, probably chicken or something else quick and easy.
Guess I don't really have chit planned.
How about you? What's cookin' this weekend at your place?
