    For your first butts, I would not worry about brining or injecting. Use this cook to establish a baseline and then get more elborate from there. Just my 2 cents.....good luck with the first cook.

    Don't sweat it, keep the door shut and let the thing cook. If you want to up the heat, go ahead, it won't hurt anything. IMO you are fine.......don't throw it out, just quit jabbing it and let it cook. LOL

    On shoulders/butts, I just imagine a checkerboard with one inch squares on the meat and inject every other square, push down on the plunger as you slowly withdraw the needle. Never injected a bottom round, but with brisket, I just try to go with the grain, injecting from the side and go around...

    You can do it that way and flip if you want to. Results will be different than not in a pan, but still good.
