He said his fabricator keeps raising his prices on him, to the point where he can't compete on price with other builders. Not sure if or when they will start making them again.  On another note...

    I appreciate all the kind words! I just hope I can replicate things next time. Great Lenexa BBQ is this weekend but I don't think I'm going to compete. Wish I was, I'd love to compete against 185 other teams and see how I stack up.

    Depends on what you are going for but you won't see many competition teams using the "no foil" method. That's just crazy.     First disappointing smoke

    You most likely need to have some type of heat plate/diffuser in there. Even then, if you cook to close to the fire box, meat is going to char like that. If you can post pics of your smoker we might be able to help a little more.
