Change in plans. I came across a Rebel 23 locally and bought it instead. Saved me $500 and it is a little bigger than the Assassin. Both are quality smokers and very similar. I would have been happy with either one; but I really wanted that gun metal grey on the Assassin. Here are some pics of...
The Humphrey's Battle Box is really nice, as long as you aren't planning on cooking a lot of food. Looks to be an excellent rib machine. For the price, you might not be able to beat it; plus it comes in a bunch of colors. You could also look into the Backwoods Chubby G2 for around the same...
Nothing against Stumps, I think they make a great product. Unfortunately, I also think you pay for the name. I settled on an Assassin. They also build the Superior and Rebel smokers, but the Assassin is just his own line. You get more bang for the buck with the Assassin versus the others. You...
After months of research and indecision, I finally settled on the Assassin. Should be here in 4-5 if all goes right. Can't wait!

Bonz,
I talked to the guy at Superior and they are not taking orders or building smokers right now. He said his fabricator keeps raising his prices on him, to the point where he can't compete on price with other builders. Not sure if or when they will start making them again.
On another note...
Yeah, I WAS going to go with a Superior Smoker but they won't get back to me so I'm going with a Rebel. Their loss, not mine. The main reason I was going to buy Superior is because there is more info of the internet about their smokers, and their videos and tutorials were pretty reassuring. Oh...
Thanks Bonz. I think I'm actually going to give Superior a shot and leaning towards the SS-2. The SS-1 is nice, but it's out of my price range. Waiting to see how much shipping is going to be before I make my decision.
Having a hell of a time deciding which smoker to buy.
1. Backwoods Fatboy: I really like the Backwoods above them all but what I don't like about the Backwoods is the water pan, and also the wire rack.....why don't they use expanded metal??? Wire makes it seem so much cheaper than other...
In my opinion/experience, if you are doing competitions...you should inject if you want to get a call. We took 2nd in pork our last competition and we injected it so much that it felt like a water balloon. The flavor difference is pretty substantial in my opinion. Also, we inject our butts and...
I appreciate all the kind words! I just hope I can replicate things next time. Great Lenexa BBQ is this weekend but I don't think I'm going to compete. Wish I was, I'd love to compete against 185 other teams and see how I stack up.
LOL...yeah, I knew better than to post without pics! Truthfully, I thought they were so bad that I almost didn't turn them in. Luckily we were able to salvage 6 decent bones from 3 slabs to turn in. I about shit my pants when they gave me the 1st place call. Although they didn't look great, the...
Depends on what you are going for but you won't see many competition teams using the "no foil" method. That's just crazy. No, you don't HAVE to foil to get great ribs, but if you know what you are doing, foiling can be your best friend. To each his own though. I never really met a rib I didn't...
You most likely need to have some type of heat plate/diffuser in there. Even then, if you cook to close to the fire box, meat is going to char like that. If you can post pics of your smoker we might be able to help a little more.
