A good source for Apple / peach (usually free) is a local orchard. I called some in my area and they said, bring your truck and get all you want. The orchards in my area have piles of old trees and branches that are great.
I also got some grape vine I plan to try on a pork loin soon...

I have never seen this contraption, BUT in boy scouts we made something like this out of a stainless steal waste can. We cooked a chicken and all kinds of stuff on it. It was pretty good but keep in mind I was 12. Back then anything that I could eat that didnt kill me was pretty good.
By The Way,
Someone made a joke on one of the forms about using pine and lighterfluid...
Well, I will come clean. About 10 years ago when I got my first smoker.... I did just that to a chicken. Took one bite and, well lets just say we had Chinese that night..

Ever see the Discovery Channel show Dirty Jobs? They did a episode on how charcoal is made. A lot of it is old construction material, untreated of course. So, I would say to find a chunk of 2x4 (as long as its oak) is probably not impossible.
OK, I know I am not the smartest guy on the block BUT I can not figure this out. I have a pic that I would like to post as my signature. However I can not make it small enough. I keep getting this error message: - Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 500 by 100 pixels or 2.0 KB...
I need to figure out how to post pics in the thread. But in the mean time, check out the attached photos of the new construction. Well underway...

Unfortunately, this probably is a trend. I am a hard core, life long hunter and fishermen with three kids. None of which are particularly interested in either. They show some interest in fishing but little to none in hunting. I have not forced the issue for fear of pushing them away from the...
When I run out of venison to make jerky from (thankfully, this rarely happens )I purchase London broil Or i buy burger and "shoot" it through my jerky shooter.

Another suggestion, not smoking but real good.
Coat it in black & white crushed pepper, then coat in real mayonnaise.
Toss on grill and cook to desired doneness... man this is good!!
I have gone the rout of trying to smoke pork tender lion. Its not too hard but you have to be careful because you can overcook it in a heartbeat.
I inject mine with a butter/garlic/Italian seasonings mixture (nothing special just mix the seasonings to taste in about a stick of melted butter.)...
What can ya say about that? WOW!! OUTSTANDING!
Thank GOD for those men and women who are over there doing their job. I pray for them all the time, Let us NEVER forget them or any of those who have gone before them.
GOD HAS BLESSED AMERICA! With people who are willing to serve!

I thought it would be cool to get a discussion going on the fabrication of smokers and grills. I was thinking everything from the Gal drum with a grate on it to the multi thousand dollar "pit" that you need a semi to haul.
