I live in the Thumb in Michigan and we have been devastated with the ash borer. I have tons of wood from all the trees I have had to cut down. I never used any for smoking because I thought the wood with the damage would not be good for smoking.
Made a small batch of Reuben brats today and they came out real tasty but some of the casing were real tough. I am using Sausage Makers 32-35MM Natural Hog Casing.
They are kind of old but they are kept in salt and in the fridge. Is this my problem, old casings? Their website says indefinite...

I used JB Weld Extreme Heat on a cracked block on a riding lawnmower. Worked quite well. I'm sure it would work just fine for what you are looking for.
