    Masterbuilt Gas Smoker Mods

I put a cookie sheet over the waterpan... seems to help, but still not a fix all... I am thinking if the vent on top was on the left side it would have helped some of the hot spots... All of mine are on the right side of the unit... direct path to the vent. Just my thoughts on it, Matt aka Rocky

    Wood chippers???

I do have a chipper shredder. I agree with trapper about renting one if you are so set on getting would locally. Plan on doing a lot in that rental time frame, not sure what it would cost to rent one, BUT I do believe to make it cost less than buying bags of chips at wally world you would need...

My $8.00, 2 minute Fire box mod.

Thanks for sharing, cheap enough of a mod. can't tell if the grate is sitting on anything else other than the foil, if not maybe two more balls of foil for more steadiness? Matt aka Rocky

All you Royal Oak Lump diehards....

Thanks for the link, and future findings. Would love to have some cherry, not that common in these mountains... but did have a cherry tree that got broken down to the graph back in 97, and the graft stock is growing, so I do know it is cherry but not a producer of fruit since then. Also that...

All you Royal Oak Lump diehards....

I will have to try it find out for sure, but living in the mountains, with my property and my property from my dad's estate (5 wooded acres) I have probably enough oak to last me for years as long as I don't use the oak to heat the house, lol If it doesn't work out with the burn barrel, not much...

    So, how about that weather?

Tonight and Tuesday a few showers are called for, but the weekend mostly sunny. I did up 25lbs (raw weight) jerky last weekend, and doing up another 25lbs this weekend. Between the ladyfriend, her 12 year old and myself that won't make it that long. Plus if you add my fishing outtings and...

    Advice on reheating pulled pork.

I have a couple of crockpots just for that reason, I set them to warm, and if I notice them drying out I have added apple juice and mixed well. I guess if you are using a finishing sauce that might be better to keep moist. Excellent information here at Virginia Cooperative Extension Matt aka Rocky

All you Royal Oak Lump diehards....

Reasons like this is why I am bound and determined to get my burn barrel set up and make my own. At least that way there is no odd discoveries, unless the neighbors are missing... won't go there, will be nothing but oak, maybe some manzanita. Matt aka Rocky

Walmart Not That Bad After All?

Sam Walton would turn over in his grave to see what, and the way they do business now. I have dealt with Walmart in the past as a vendor, and as a customer. At times they are good, others not so good. Service where it counts has gone out the window, but then again that has happened at the big...

    Overdoing it

The last pulled pork I did, I used a rub, did spritz it the last two hours, every half hour, used SoFlaQuer's Finishing Sauce. I also serve it with Tulsa Jeff's "Goodness Gracious Sakes Alive" BBQ sauce on the side. It was all good!!! So no, you aren't over doing it, but sometimes less is...
