I've never tried the mailbox mod. I really haven't had a need. The Amnps never goes out on a cold smoke and rarely goes out on a hot smoke.

Disappointed with amount of smoke; bought a master built electric 40" added updated part sent by mas

Hey Smuir121,  I have a gen 1, MES 40", and it NEVER gave me enough smoke.  I bought a 5"x8" AMNPS, and have never looked back.  I can get 1-12 hours of an even and controlled smoke every time. It also works great for cold smokes, like cheese, bacon or fish. All The Best. JD

Hey Jimmy1957,  I just bought a MSG XL44 and I was wondering if you could send me a pic or two of your cold smoker mod? And maybe an idiots guide on how you did it? Thanks in advance. JD

    Masterbuilt XL 44" Propane Smoker

Having never seen a Masterbuilt 44 XL with one burner, all I can do is guess. Either more heat or more control or both. With it being 35 degrees outside and water in the pan, it took about thirty minutes to get up to 225 with both burners on high. Best JD

    Masterbuilt XL 44" Propane Smoker

I ran both burners on medium high to get to temp, and to get the wood going. Then I was on medium for the rest of the time and had no flare ups.

I did 3 racks of baby backs last night. With it being a tad chilly here, it took quite a while to heat up. Once I was able to stabilize the temp @ 250', everything was great. The cast iron pan worked like a charm!

Masterbuilt Smokers (Bear’s Thoughts & Findings)

Hi REMSR, Thanks for the response. I bought it to try it. So many of the. Many of the BBQ restaurants around here are using gas or electric smokers, and are producing some good eats. With it not being insulated, I'm sure temp control will be a challenge. Other than that, I'm looking to have...
