Anybody smoking nuts with a tumbler rather than trays?

Yeah - I tried simply pasting pics in. They succeeded, and were visible when editing (even after saving, closing, and re-editing) but the whole post was blank. I'll get the Q-View up when I scrape together a few minutes today.

Anybody smoking nuts with a tumbler rather than trays?

Brined over night and tumbled in smoke (AMNPS with cherry pellets) for 2.5 hours prior to lighting the fire. Used a louvered broiler tray about 2" above the burners and an inch below the drum to distribute the heat more betterer. So far the tumbling technique seems quite acceptable: 5.5 total...

Anybody smoking nuts with a tumbler rather than trays?

Had to contrive a latch on the opening end after all. I have pics and will post when I figure out why the pics are stopping the post.

    Irish Egg Rolls

Here's a smokey Irish I can definitely recommend: http://www.connemarawhiskey.com/ Not exactly Ardbeg, but being peated it's quite smokey by Irish standards. Besides Ardbeg I've enjoyed several Islays, and Connemara holds its' own in that company.

Anybody smoking nuts with a tumbler rather than trays?

I figured on brining or oiling and cold smoking, since any spice is going to be scrubbed off. Then seasoned and back into the tumbler for 10-15 minutes to roast. Alternatively, I think post-seasoning is always an option. All cleaned and seasoned. Nuts are soaking in brine. To christen...

Anybody smoking nuts with a tumbler rather than trays?

Thanks for the encouragement! $10USD for four pie tins, $32USD for 36x36 perf'd aluminum, $3.89USD for 36" angle aluminum, aluminum rivets and stainless steel hog rings I already had, yields two 9.5"x18" tumblers. $23USD each for the McGuyver version ;) If I season in the tumbler I'll use one...

Anybody smoking nuts with a tumbler rather than trays?

Taking a page from our DIY Coffee roasting brethren, I built a nut rotisserie tumbler for almonds (perhaps mixed nuts.) The design is similar to this one here: http://www.peanutroasting.com/consumer-drums-for-bbq-grills/16-premium-5-lb-peanut-roaster-drum-for-bbq.html Is anybody using a...

    Whole hog on a spit.

My blue-collar boat club ('yacht club' sounds SO pretentious!) has a pit out front that may have never been used. It's got a hog sized spit... I should plan on a piggy this year.

    High praise indeed...

The beast. Only managed one picture before the piranha moved in: Pepperjack, mild cheddar, spicy almonds, and sticky almonds. The sticky ones were supposed to be praline but turned out caramel and gooey. Oh well... Not mine, or even my idea, but funny if you know the Boston area:

    High praise indeed...

"This might be better than bacon!" This from the person who launched my down this path, when gifted a little burnt ends this AM... About a 7 pound brisket, purchased from the last real butcher within a reasonable driving distance. Injected with a mix of vegetable broth and bourbon with a...

    Smoke Vault Packer w/Q

Man, Turnip... what a view to wake up to every morning. I hope you don't use that sleeping bag... next time you may wake up to something that looks suspiciously like your avatar licking your toes!

Smoking a rack of pork!! QView added

That cut is on the top of my 'next' list, that's for sure. There's a nice family place near my home that has a 'cowboy porkchop' that looks like it is pared from from that roast. They finish frenching it and basically leave the loin... Its' spiced and roasted, then they cover it in asiago and...

AMNPS, my first brisket, and a windy New England fall day...

AMNPS, my first brisket, and a windy New England fall day...

After the steam from the residual water in the steam pan went away, a single row of hickory pellets produced a nice, consistent smoke for three hours in an ambient cabinet temperature of 225F.      The smoke flavor was very nice indeed. Next up is cheese, and probably almonds, so they'll...

AMNPS, my first brisket, and a windy New England fall day...

The smoker is about 14"x15" internal shelf area... I picked up a few teflon serving pans (think inserts for a steam table) that are perfectly sized and they fit the brisket well, but my cookie racks did not fit. Fortunately I already have a vegetable & fish grill rack that fits within the steam...
