So the wife asked me what i wanted for my birthday dinner with the family. We always do a birthday dinner for everyone where the birthday person gets to choose the meal.
So i picked ribs this year. She said..."but you would have to cook then"...I said i know right!...lol I do love to cook...
Ok so ive been doing some modifications on my dynaglow smoker. The only problem i have right now is my thermocouple has a bad swing in it. I set my pid to match it at around 50 degrees when starting up. But once it reaches around 140 my pid was reading about 230. I had to go in and reprogram it...
Its the mypin ta6. I got it off amazon. The only thing extra i had to buy was the heat sink for the relay. I did however buy a different thermocouple that was a bit longer.
So i had some free time this evening so i installed the thermocouple in the back about 8 inches from the top. I also installed the cover over the back of the heat element connections.
Did some more mods yesterday to the new smoker. I installed a heat element and pid to help keep the temp stable and just because it sounded like a great idea..lol
My question is where i should instsll my thermocouple that tells you what the temp is in the cook box. I was thinking about 6 inches...
If you put the cure in the jerky marinade then there is no reason you couldnt cold smoke it first. Deer jerky is the best! Recently i have gotten into grinding deer and using the jerky gun just because it's way quicker. Still experimenting with different sessonings though. My favorite is back...
Here is my one question for those who have built something....where should i install the thermocouple at?
I was thinking on the side about middle way on the left side. Whats your thoughts?
I have an 800 watt coming. May not be big enough but my main purpose is for a supplemental heat when my fire starts to die down. I figured 800 was a good starting point for now.
I finally received most of my parts for my pid to run the heat element. So this evening i wired it up. Now im just waiting for the post office to deliver my heating element.
So after i took the smoker outside i started with 2 mods right off.
1. I added a stop for the charcoal box so it doesn't get dumped in the ground.
2. I added a baffle in the cook box to help distribute the heat.
Thats what this forum is all about my friend! Its pretty easy to do you just have to install it with a washer between the angle and the grate so that it still slides.
Baffle is made of 1/16 stainless. Had a piece of scrap at work. Just punched some holes in it and put a bend on the end.
I just lit the first thing of charcoal in it to see what it would do a few minutes ago.
Ok so the first 2 mods were the stop on the wood basket so it doesn't come all the way out and drop on the ground. The second pic is the heat baffle in the cook box. Still need to add a leg on the end but waiting to install that after i install the heat element in the bottom. More to come later...
