Thanks for the advice I learned a lot from making them and i ordered a proper thermometer.got a bit of work to do on my smoker has a few leaks and could do with a better firebox. For a first attempt I Think.it went ok tasted nice and we weren't Ill next time will be better
shortened pipe by a few feet seems to be getting hotter now.i unscrewed a bit of t&g on the top an the back and makes a ok sliding vent shame its started to rain
I've moved it closer to the fire bow so pipe is a couple of feet shorter so that should help with the heat.I had iron yesterday with a couple of handfuls of charcoal and got it upto about 160 need to order a proper thermometer
I put a vent on the side below the intake and seems to be working now.I'm using a chimania just now as a fire box till I can get the bits to build a proper firebox
got around to finishing it today after it sat outside my house for a few months
lit a small test fire to see if it worked and the fire kept going out as if its getting starved of air .ive not put any holes in the smoker is that the problem or is it something else?

Im Ewan from Airdrie in scotland been into bbqs for a few years but never had the room for anything bigger than a argos special. Got a lot more outside space now so more fun food can be tryed. I got into that way of cooking after living in Texas for a few months...
