    cleaning your mes 30?

I hear ya, but if you wait, then it's that much harder to clean.  I came up with an idea today as I was scrubbing my racks and pans.  For my next smoke I'm going to go buy one of those Rubbermaid type large containers (big enough to hold the racks and pans) and as soon as I take the food out...

    LOVIN' my MES 40!

I just used my MES 40 for the first time to smoke meats yesterday, although I had seasoned it twice (once with the half chip tray and another time after I got the retrofit).  Worked like a champ.  I have to admit that I laughed when I saw the remote control, but now definitely appreciate being...

A Maze N-- Wood For It??

Thanks for the info, Todd.  As I said, my comments were of an investigative nature and was just trying to learn about the product and dust in case I decided to go in that direction.  However, I just used my MES 40 for the first time yesterday to smoke meat and I was more than happy with the...

    going whole hog

I've been involved in a couple of pig roasts.  One was buried and the other was a skewer job cooked over hot coals.  Both took a lot longer than 5 hours.  The one over hot coals was when I was in the military in Okinawa Japan and it was actually a stolen pig.  Hey, I was drunk and there was a...

Spare Rib Sunday... and my patio project

Excellent job on the patio.  I laid a round brick patio for a friend last summer and I can appreciate all the hard work involved.  Excellent looking ribs, too!

A Maze N-- Wood For It??

I haven't checked shipping prices, but the PS is $21.99 for FORTY POUNDS.  The AMNS 5 pound is $12.99.  I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised if the shipping results in 8 times the quantity costing more when the product cost is only twice as much.  Yeah, I've thought of contacting cabinet shops...

A Maze N-- Wood For It??

I just found a thread on the Weber Cold Smoking board where a poster has stated that they had good results with the PS sawdust using it in the ProQ smoker, which seems to be similar to the AMNS.  Just thought I'd mention this as the PS dust seems to be about 5 times cheaper than the AMNS dust...

A Maze N-- Wood For It??

Has anyone ever tried using this sawdusts in their AMNS?  The pictures are ambiguous as it shows big chips in the bags, but fine dust in the container in the middle. https://www.psseasoning.com/index.cfm/act/products.view/category_id/20

    MES 40 not smoking

Thanks, TJohnson.  I wasn't aware that they took the heat shield out with the retrofit.  I'd read about people drilling holes as a modification, but I guess that was before the retrofit became available.

    MES 40 not smoking

Did you soak your wood chips?  I just got the MES 40 last week and I soaked the chips as suggested in the manual when seasoning and got very little smoke.  So, I took the chip tray out and dumped it and put dry in.  I got a little smoke, but definitely not enough.  When I was finished seasoning...

To Trim or Not to Trim

Old thread, but thanks for the link to that article.  Quite a bit of good information for a newbie like me (and not just about trimming or not).  Thought I'd bump it for some of the other newbies.

    Rib and Jerky Racks

That's funny.  There were 3 in stock at Sam's when I just bought mine.  I'm dying to assemble and play, but I have people coming over in about an hour for burgers and brats, so I'll be on the grill for a while and socializing and won't get a chance to mess with it until later tonight.  Then...

    Rib and Jerky Racks

Thanks folks.  Signed up for the e-course and read the first one last night.  Did a lot of thinking since I started this thread and have now decided to go with the MES40.  From what I've found from looking around on the internet, the cheapest place to get it is Sam's Club for $299.86.  I'll be...

Thanks for the welcome, folks.  After reading some of this forum I've already talked myself into going with the MES40 since I started this thread.  I love having people over for some BB and ribs (oven and grill in the past) and was concerned about the 30 having enough room for all the ribs I'd...

Hi folks, Call me Joe.  I'm from Jeffersontown, Kentucky and just getting ready to get started in smoking, although I know quite a few people that do it.  The taste finally won me over.  I've always loved smoked foods, but recently had some smoked pork tenderloin at a little country restaurant...

    Rib and Jerky Racks

I've read through some of the electric smoker board because I am in the market for one.  I was all set to buy the MES 30 and came across the Cajun Injector for about $5 more.  I was sold on it over the MES because of the rib rack and jerky rack that doesn't come with the MES. But then, after...
