Thanks for the great suggestions for an ash can, I'll probably end up using that Bush bean can.

Got a question for mini wsm users

Hey Dirtsailor, what did you make your ash can out of?  I've heard of people using tuna cans but that one looks different.

Thanks for taking the time to do the nice write up.  I'm in the market for a good meat temperature probe and it is nice to hear about some different choices.

Got a question for mini wsm users

10 hrs on a mini is a long cook, you should be pleased.  Great picture Dirtsailor of the ash build up around your deflector can.  I tried to make a ring of foil and put that around the air intake and not put charcoal over it, but ash still would slide under it and clog it up.  Guess I'll be...

    My first brisket (with Q-view)

I think it looks delicious!  You got a great bark, nice smoke ring, and it doesn't look all dried out.  I think you did well.  Flats are a nice size but aren't easy to smoke well.  Just give me some cheap sandwich bread and jalapenos and I'ld be set!

    Anyone using a Thermoworks DOT?

I don't have a digital thermometer you leave in while smoking and was reading about the DOT.  I love the Thermopop and I like how simple the DOT is.  For just a little more money I could get a Maverick which seems to be popular here, but is more complicated.  Any first hand accounts with the...

    Two butts

So how did they turn out?  Saw one of those green eggs at Ace Hardware the other day, had no idea they were over a $1000, so how is it smoking on one of them?

How long has California been in a drought?  The day you smoke ribs Los Angeles gets heavy rain!  Just means you need to grill more, for the good of your state.  Nice pictures and write up!

Got a question for mini wsm users

Steve how did it go?  I made a mini from a Silver about a month ago and as they were telling you the bottom vents do tend to fill with ash after 4 or 5 hours and temps start to fall off.  I'm getting ready to add some side vents, plan on calling it a Super Silver!  I've ordered the lower vents...
