Yesterday, due to the rumors of a "Fattie Throwdown" Immediately started mods on my SmokinPro. I wasted a bit of dryer duct, mainly because I forgot it extends... so In all wasted about a dollars worth of aluminum...
After extending, flexing, trimming and feeling dumb... and a little tipsy...
Haha. Yep. I followed a blog of his when making my galvanized trashcan smoker. And my pork butt wound up edible, but similar to his. Then I came here and found out what I was doing was potentially dangerous. The guy is smart, and nuts, but not always right.
And it's not just the food network...
My first (and last) smoke I did with mesquite chips from walmart... on a hotplate... in a garbage can. Same exact problem. Smoke was about the same thickness of yours, and The bark on my pork shoulder was... pungent. Made great omelettes though.
The only thing I've ever smoked was a turkey in a webber bullet. Turned out dry, but good. So with that said I'm gonna throw myself into this with reckless aplomb. Thinking things through thoroughly has never been my hallmark.
Now it's of to menards and farm and fleet to Shoddily mod my offset...
Just broke up about two weeks ago so...
Sleeping in, being broke, depressed and alone.

Eating ribs, being broke, content and alone .
After three years I'm diggin the single life!
I made an electric smoker out of a garbage can (worked really good that one time) because I'm extremely impulsive and wanted pulled pork. Came here looking for advice on how I had made pork jerky, and before I could learn that galvanizing inside a smoker is a bad idea I had to pick a username.
Now, are these made with smoked rye, or smoked barley.
I like rogue, but they tend to be pretty up their own a**es with their pricing.
And I also like porters/stouts of any variety.
I have this crab apple tree... I really want it dead because it's haggard looking, and sheds tons of the most useless ground clutter (crabapples, no good for making booze, no good to me) which attracts yellowjackets in the late summer.
-BUT-
my Mom would probably disown me if I cut it down...
Hot plate? Or heat coil? Unless you have one BURLY hot plate or an itty bitty drum I don't think it would work.
I personally made one from a (new...) 20 gal. steel garbage can (which everyone here talked me out of using... probably for my own good...), and it barely held 220 with a pork...
Yeah, For a state that has some ridiculous game laws, and DRACONIAN firearms laws, we in IL have it easy with that one.
Friend of mine and I were driving down RT47 from WI and nailed a young buck at... I'm gonna say around 35 because we were doing like 50 and he mashed the brakes pretty good...
I work with sonic welders, shrinking ovens and vacuum shrinkers all the time (industrial, not food) and although you do need to "waste" some to get a good even weld, my Mother's vacuum sealer seems to eat the d*** things. Not only does it leave about quarter to 3/8" around the food, but the weld...

Love mine. I paid like 50-60 when I first moved out on my own. Kinda chintzy but still works like a charm, the blade stays sharp, and it comes all the way apart easy enough. Compared to the ones I used when I worked in a super market deli, you can't fine tune the slice thickness as much (Like...
That's about all you need BenR. I usually use a six point five gallon carboy for primary, because when I first tried a belgian wit (same yeast...) it blew the hose right out of my 5gal and coated all of my decent clothes with kraeusen. Then it got infected and died.
Test tube/smack pack yeasts...
I got a smokinpro offset this weekend, and aside from a little rust spot on the bottom of the smoke box, the exterior is beautiful. The fire box has obviously never been used. But it has been grilled in a bit by neophytes and the smoke box grill basket is warped and rusted pretty good, and the...
