    Char Grill Gravity 980 Issues

My guess would be bridging in the charcoal stack. I've had this happen a couple of times. Temp not going up like you expect. You open the top lid and think you have plenty of charcoal, then you poke it hard and it collapses.

Which Gravity Smoker? Chargriller or Masterbuilt?

A little off topic, but since I mentioned my fan issue with the 980 I thought I should follow up that CG customer service sent a new fan and controller out on Monday, arrived today, and the new fan resolves the problem and runs like a champ. They provided a return shipping label for the failed...

Which Gravity Smoker? Chargriller or Masterbuilt?

My sister in law has the MB560. She loves it, and we've each enjoyed what the other cooks! As mcokevin said, both make good food. As much as I love the 980, its not perfect. Sometimes I admire the compact size of the 560. The size of the 980 is both a pro and a con. Its great for multiple butts...

Which Gravity Smoker? Chargriller or Masterbuilt?

I've had the 980 for about 8 months now. I haven't needed to use the top rack for anything, as the main grate has ample size for my needs. I'm not sure that its 'flimsy' but it is narrow. There is an LSS mod that looks pretty good to extend it if you really need the extra space. I've done...

    Covid booster shot problems,

I've had both pfizer shots, no side effects. My entire family, and wife's family, and all co-workers except one have all had all shots with nothing more than a sore arm. I got the shingles vaccine in November '20. If I had felt as bad after the covid vaccine as I did after the shingles shot, I...

    New Chargriller Gravity Fed Grill

Good shout about using the inverter. I have several EGO power tools including the inverter and their batteries. I've used the inverter once so far, mostly just to be sure I could grill in a power outage. Worked great. Where my grill is currently the extension cord is not an issue.

    Char Griller 980

I'll second your opinion, loving my980 and using at least 3 nights a week, pork butts and ribs, candied bacon, pizza, chicken of all kinds, burgers and hotdogs, and general outdoor oven cooking like mac n cheese, lasagna, etc. Gotten over any 'efficiency' concerns. Its just does a great job...

    Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560 $350

I like my CG980 but if the MB560 had been available at that price when I was shopping I think I would have been happy to get the MB!

Char griller gravity or masterbuilt gravity.

I've had the CG980 a little over a month. I'd been wanting one of the MBs ever since they came out, read/watched everything I could about them, even convinced my sister in law to buy the 560. Then a few weeks later saw the 980. Hope she wasn't too miffed that I told her to get the MB560 because...

Meatball Mac-N-Cheese on the CharGriller 980

Thanks all, it was great! My daughter is enjoying the leftovers, although they won't last long :) Two pork butts going on early tomorrow morning...eating good this weekend!

Meatball Mac-N-Cheese on the CharGriller 980

My daughter wanted one of their favorite dinners so they could take the leftovers with them on a house-sitting job. Meatball MacNCheese. Took it up a notch by doing it all on the Chargriller 980. I loosely follow any number of online recipes. Measurements are never exact, I usually reduce the...

    Masterbuilt 560-charcoal experience

I have the Chargriller GF, but essentially the same concerns regarding charcoal. I really liked the smoke/flavor profile with B&B lump, but have had things jam which fortunately I caught before it affected the cook. I've been trying the B&B and Kingsford briquettes, they seem to flow better...

Char Griller 980 Running very high temps

That explanation sounds reasonable. Fortunately I've not encountered any issues yet. I've been putting my wood in the ash pan. Usually just 2-3 smallish chunks, so maybe they've been small enough not to cause a problem. I may start putting the wood in the hopper.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

I've been just putting the wood in the ash pan of my chargriller 980, so far that seems to be working well for me. I might try some in the hopper at some point but I like just filling the hopper and go.

    Char-Griller 980 Second impressions

Good point about smoke in the front, I didn't consider that. Although with all the fan circulation I'm not sure its an issue. The flavor from the 980 is great, between the charcoal and more smoke (compared to my Traeger) I'm loving it.

    Char-Griller 980 Second impressions

I have a few more cooks under my belt. I'm really liking the 980. It has been really easy to use, not difficult to clean or prep. I'm kinda lazy, so I have only added foil to the drip shield twice, once for burgers once for a pork butt. Why have a drip shield if you can't use it? I find it...

First time running the Masterbuilt 1050 Overnight -- Pork Shoulder smoke and a good lesson learned.

I did a boston butt Sunday on my GF 980, first low and slow. Started with a full hopper of BB lump at 5:30 am at 225. Around 11:30 am I opened the hopper to see how the charcoal was doing. Thought 'wow that's pretty good for 6 hours', then I decided to poke it just to be sure...whump it dropped...

Chick Enchiladas Low Carb Corn Tortilla's

I did some chicken enchiladas the other night that started with some smoked and grilled chicken thighs, green peppers and onions, then assembled and finished on the grill. But not as many good and tasty ingredients as you have in your picture! I love corn tortillas for them, but the rest of the...
