It wasn't really a fire (per se) as much as a controlled burn in my popcorn tin/AMANPS. Trust me, I thought ahead of the risk of this spot catching fire. I made attempts to minimize the risk. (I want to be able to smoke again another day!)
Thanks for the suggestions.
I think a big part of my issue today was the strong winds. Although I have my setup in an enclosed screened porch, the winds seemed to cause enough of a draft to ignite my pellets and catch the aluminum flex hose on fire (thus causing more holes and even more...
Well, in my first attempt at a pork butt I also had my first (lesson learned) messup...
My external MB mox/AMNPS tray caught fire. I came home from lunch to find this - (thank you windy day)
I think the most of the saving grace here is the fact that most of the nasty smoke, went out of the...
I think I am rapidly coming to this mindset.
My current rub (I need to finish off) has around 7 spices, including Cayenne and Chili powder. *Im* perfectly okay with these, but Im definitely taking my other peeps in my household into consideration.
The big thing about (the me) Im...
I lived in Sahuarita back in the 80s when it was still an early booming mining town. Oro Valley was still in its infancy back then. Times have changed.
Welcome!
Welcome from a fellow (native) Zonie!
Although I'm on the opposite coast nowdays, I do miss the southwest!
Welcome!
BTW, what part of Tucson are you from? I was raised in NW area (Flowing Wells/Amphi) and even lived on the Southside for a period or two. Currently my family is a mix of...
Hmmm, these images were hosted on Google Photos. Ill look at the permissions to see what might be hanging up for you.
Good call on the vac pac suggestion!
Thanks again buddy!
LOL As of my first smoke, Bears notes were my notes ;)
I think once I get a few more smokes under my belt, I will start on my own note taking. I can see the *whys* of all of the tips and tricks people share here. :)
I like that!
Well, I popped my smoking cherry today on an Eye of Round. Using my MES30 and MBMod, I followed Bear's guidelines and it came out quite well!
I will say that I think I am going to either have to have my current rub grow on me some, or still keep tinkering and find a rub that is actually...
Yuppers. It was a good test to run the burnoff/break in (275 for 3 hours) and I got to put the smoker mod to the test as well - It ran quite well! Im excited to put my first roast on it tomorrow :D
Oh, and MAD props to the people at Amazen!
Not only did my Amazen tray (and pellets) show up TODAY (Saturday) instead of the scheduled Monday - My Amazen tray was FILLED with Apple pellets!!!
That is a bit above and beyond. :)
Thank you again!
Okay - today was D-Day for my journey!!
I was expecting everything to show up over the next few days (and the smoker being here on Tuesday) but the power of Amazon (and Amazen) are pretty impressive!!
So here it is in all of its glory - My MES30, Amazen tray, Mailbox Mod (gloves temp probe...
Thank you to everyone who has helped me thus far, and welcomed me so warmly :)
I went ahead and pulled the trigger last night for most everything I think I am going to need to hit the ground running (save the foods I will be smoking)
I went the MES30 route and an Amazen tray. I found an old...
